A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. what did you wrench on today??

As well as new valves (16 x $55), the valve stem seals in the donor head are brand new genuine suzuki seals, so if they can be removed without damage there is 16 x $13.30 to be saved and spent on other parts. Made a seal extractor by cutting a nut in half and grinding it down to fit in the valve...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

The Kat I have owned since 1986 and the project Kat, pretty sure one of these will become a Garage Queen and its not difficult to guess which one. She wont be pushed into a corner to rot away thats for sure, will still be fired up and have tons of TLC and ridden maybe a couple of times a month...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Wow, you took a big hit with that one, glad to hear you have recovered and are riding again. I see you have an EF engine in you Kat, the best large capacity air-cooled engine Suzuki ever made! You have leading axle forks, a rare mod for a Kat in Oz, is it a thing in the States? I have a few...

what did you wrench on today??

My project Kat engine is in need of a top end refresh, blowing smoke under acceleration, fouling spark plugs and oiling up the exhaust, at least the pipes wont rust from the inside. No history came with the engine so I have no idea what the internals are like. The plan is to replace the valves...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Sorry to hear about the deer incident and your Kat. It never turns out well when bikes and big animals mess with each other, hope you were OK after the prang? Do you have plans to rebuild the Kat or is the damage beyond repair? In the first pic, mine is the Kat on the right side of the line-up...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Each year a few of us head off to a kart track for some fun and some occasional red race mist, always a good day with the mates. The bonus is the ride to the track, going the long way with mountain roads and valley twisties then a bit of Flatlander blasting its a 560km round trip leaving at...

Just noticed in the pic before the aluminium bolts on the scale pic, the catch can support bracket needs to go on a diet. Must be around 25 grams extra weight there?

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

These M5, M6 and M8 aluminium bolts arrived today, they are to replace the titanium bolts currently holding the cowl brackets in place and a few other brackets that don't need Ti or steel to secure them. Much lighter than titanium or steel bolts so once installed the running tally will be...

what did you wrench on today??

The project Kat has logged it's first 3,000 km and I wanted to inspect the sump and oil pump screen while changing the oil today. Sump had a small amount of clutch dust that needed to be cleaned out and the oil pump screen was nice and clean and no sludge in the screen bowl. Also inspected the...

what did you wrench on today??

By "backing off" I didn't really loosen them too much. I only turned each head nut 3/4 of a turn so there was still some tension on the bolts and pressure on the base and head gasket. Following the manual sequence order for the nuts I torqued the nuts in stages, going around all the nuts first...

what did you wrench on today??

This weekend the project Kat will rack up 3,000km since the engine was installed so I wanted to check on the top end and head nut torque. Cams are fine and all secure and the cam chain has correct tension, checked the cam chain tension as I had replaced the OEM cam chain tensioner with a manual...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hi Diirk, thanks mate and a Happy New Year to you. Yes, the build continues to get lighter, the next goal is to hit 199.00 kg. Finding 677 grams would be easy if I swapped the OEM indicators for LED units but then it wouldn't look right and if it doesn't look right it isn't right. Swapping...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

As I have mentioned before in this build the low hanging fruit has been picked bare so from now on it will be fine tuning of parts to reduce weight, a few grams here and a few grams there. Today I revisited the mirror mounts and swapped them for thinner wall aluminium mounts, every gram taken...
