A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    GS450 Rebuild

I got it on ebay and believe the whole system is supertrapp (based on what the ebay seller said - it weighs about as much as one of the stock headers and is definitely not a MAC). It came with a really beat up can that I'm not going to use. I have pictures in the thread below, I'm sure you can...

Cost to Coast ... to Coast on 1977 GS750 and GS550

The roads in Yosemite were awesome but it there was a lot of traffic, plus it was cold and we had been on the bikes for at least 8 hours that day. Our campground was packed and our site wasn't really that great and I had nowhere to set up my hammock. Bobby used the tent that night and I just...

Cost to Coast ... to Coast on 1977 GS750 and GS550

Day 21: In the parking lot there were no trees to set up the hammocks so we just strung up a tarp inbetween our bikes and slept on the gravel under that. I got woken up once or twice from the wind flapping the tarp around but besides that it was a pretty comfortable and refreshing night. This...

    GS450 Rebuild

Okay I'm back at messing with this since the cold is setting in. I got a lightweight supertrapp 2 into 1, a 18" wheel from an S model GS450 and welded a rear hoop on today. I have a week off before starting a new job so hope to at least make the a new seat and get my rear fender/lights sorted out.

Which master cylinder do I have?

In a sense... What you are actually comparing is the ratio of total area of the pistons on the caliper to the ratio of the MC piston. Having a larger diameter MC piston will make the brakes MORE firm but you are actually exerting less force on the caliper piston. I found this helpful reading...

what did you wrench on today??

I grabbed one over the weekend and so far love having a lift...prompted me to do my GS750 valves on Sunday. Yeah the clamp (wouldn't even consider it a chock) is pretty much useless and I guess technically could `hold' a motorcycle upright but it would fall over if you sneezed. I would trust it...

    450s on the high way?

I take mine on the highway all the time and do 150+ mile days. Thing cruises all day at 70 but doesn't have the pickup that my GS750 does if you want/need to pass somebody at that speed. You get whipped around by the wind a little more but it's part of the fun. I'm 6'1" and 165lbs. My only...

Which master cylinder do I have?

I spent over a month trying to get my '77 GS750 brakes sorted out due to this confusion. Here's my thread from a few months back which might have some helpful information and also there are some links to other helpful stuff...

Differences between the '88 gs459l and other years, Carburetor and other.

I would assume that you could put in an older pair with minimal work as the engines remained virtually unchanged although there may be some minor jetting changes. To compare different jetting schemes that were used - take a look at this page on basscliffs site...

    Craigslist "funnies"

Not sure what they were thinking with this hardtail... I think the tank `art' sums it up pretty well. https://albany.craigslist.org/mcy/d/1980-bobber/6346083025.html

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

I can attest to Earls lines having made a couple (with help from Ed). It's really pretty easy and they come out looking/working great.

    77 GS750 PO couldn't get running

Wow awesome bike...looks just like mine! Do you know what the mufflers on those are? I've seen a similar set on a GS550 and always thought they looked cool.

    Carb help please

Haha yeah Chuck! What a crazy amount of info. For a comparison, here is a similar picture that I happened to have on my flickr of the stock vm26's on my '77 GS750:

    Carb help please

Not trying to come across as being aggravated, just trying to be clear about the missing info. Did you change one coil or both? This might be a stupid question but if you replaced both coils, are you sure that you didn't accidentally reverse the wiring. I'm not sure if the bike would even run...

    Carb help please

You should be able to get PODS to work reasonably with the stock carbs. It is still not clear at all what is on your bike, can you verify: 1. WHAT IS YOUR EXHAUST! Is it a 4 into 1? You never answered this question - take a picture and post it. 2. WHAT PODS DO YOU HAVE? If you still have the...

    GS750 1977 not starting

You didn't mention anything about cleaning the carbs so I would start there. After sitting for that amount of time you'll need to do a full teardown and soak, replacing the likely dried out O-rings. While they are off, I would seriously consider replacing the intake boots and airbox boots if...

Stuff you have been putting off for winter

Thanks, I'm still learning how to use it so have been just snapping away as often as I can...motorcycles make for fun pictures so I have lots of those haha I'm hoping it warms up again for a few days in New Engand. Last year around Christmas it was still in the 50's.

Cost to Coast ... to Coast on 1977 GS750 and GS550

Day 20: So I forgot to add in the last post that at the end of day 19, my odometer hit 19,315 miles so just over 4,000 for the trip so far. The kid we met, I forget his name so I'm going to call him Owen, had told us about hiking the Narrows at Zion. In the morning we woke up, had a quick...
