DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Gsxr-400 gk71b

Look at https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gsxr400-1987-h-general-export-e01_model13563/partslist/ Each part has list of other models that use it. A quick look shows that 100 other Suzuki models use the clutch friction plate, But the cam cover is unique.

Ticking Type Sound When Idling and Riding

GS engines are mechanically noisy. Cam chains, flat tappets, or finger rockers, roller cranks on the earlier units (and the 1100s). No water jacket to insulate internal sound, fin rattle even with all the rubber dampers in place (most of those will be as hard as rock anyway). All of them are...

    Replacing a camshaft sprocket?

Be careful with the torque when retightening, I had assumed that all the cam sprocket bolt torques would be the same across all the GS(X) models and their workshop manuals. I was wrong. Getting cast iron welded is expensive.

1979 GS550e is now running but idles at 2500k What now?

First thing check you have throttle cable slack. If the revs change as you turn the bars left to right the cable is adjusted too tight, wrongly routed or is too short. Second unscrew the throttle stop screw until the cable quadrant isn't touching the screw and it should stall. If not, something...

1979 GS550e is now running but idles at 2500k What now?

79... The carbs in the pic you posted in another thread regarding the choke linkage showed Mikuni BS CV (diaphragm) carbs. Is this what you have? I thought (but may be wrong) that the 79 still had Mikuni VMs? These were the years where Suzuki transitioned due to emissions. If you have BS...

    mechanical advance limited range GS550

If it were me, I'd start by checking the index marks against true TDC on number 1. Some say you can only do this with a positive stop and a degree wheel. I'm quite happy using a dial gauge to ascertain TDC. That way you have a timing datum on an unknown system. I always set the timing at full...

    Hanging idle troubleshoot help

Just saw the 6000 rpm bit. Temporarily replace the fuel line with clear tube. You'll be able to see if fuel supply from the tank is the issue.

    Hanging idle troubleshoot help

Hanging idle is symptomatic of a lean idle mix. Air leaks make a mixture lean as it adds additional air. If the carb spray isn't changing the idle and you're sure it's not an air bleed, then it can only be an idle circuit issue. Lean = not enough fuel for the volume of air, so it may be fuel...

    Clicking and not turning over

Ninety nine times out of 100, the solenoid (actually a starter relay) click and no crank, with a good battery a starter that spins when connected directly to a battery is a bad earth between the solenoid bracket and the negative pole of the battery. Try running a wire directly between the...

    How to raise the needle?

May be it's too rich? Have you plug chopped with fresh plugs while it's 'farting' around to ascertain what the combustion is like at this point? Stutter is usually a descriptor of a rich mix. Lean mixes surge, like your starting to run out of gas (because you are). As Nessism says in his...

83 GS1100E Front Master Cylinder Options

No problem, mate. I wouldn't recommending something I don't use myself and am completely satisfied with. "Made in ..." means less these days than ever before. My parents generation referred to Made in Japan as "Jap-crap" back in the day. The way I see it, China produces about one third of...

83 GS1100E Front Master Cylinder Options

Here you go Steve. Letgoing Co., Ltd.(CHN.) Just search for "PX1 16mm" The only other thing to be aware of, is the banjo bolt (which it ships with) is 1.25mm pitch (stock Suzuki is 1.0mm) This is only important if fitting a switch type banjo for the brake light.

83 GS1100E Front Master Cylinder Options

If you really want to improve your braking performance with stock calipers, fit one of these. It's made in China (like Brembo is) and the quality is superb. Cue the misguided comments on "Chineseium". Ordered on Aliexpress they land at my New Zealand doorstep for about NZD $90.00. Which is...

    Continued Hard Starting Woes

I agree with Nessism, it sounds dry. Check the fuel tap is operating correctly. Try letting sit in the "PRIME" position for a minute and then give it crank. Report back. If my GS650 sits for more than a week or two, it needs to be primed.

    Steering stem removal and replacement

Well, replacing the bearings won't hurt anything and if it is them you've solved your problems and if not you will have eliminated a suspect. It may just need retensioning. Tapered roller bearings are pretty robust -unless the grease is gone and then corrosion pitting can ruin them. You asked...
