A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Starter motor rebuild

The magnets in the photo you posted appear largely undamaged. So why do you need new magnets? I repaired a starter motor where the magnets had come loose and had a quite a few fine chips taken out of them by the armature. Hardest part was getting rid of the chips which stuck to everything. Once...

    Help with 83 GS850

I take it, you have replacement needle valve seats and needles? Last time I replaced a set in a set of BS Mikunis that had sat for 15 years, I essentially destroyed the valve seats extracting them. They were stuck in with gum and residue. I used nail puller pliers to grip them and wrestle them...

Tuning 1979 GS550 Straight Pipes and Pods

Interesting questions, here's my 2 cents worth 1) When riding in any gear my tachometer doesn't go above 4k rpm and adding throttle doesn't change RPM or rate of acceleration. Is this an exhaust back pressure issue or a tuning issue? Or something else entirely? If you engine won't rev beyond...

    My 1977 GS750 is complete!

The GS750 was my second Suzuki and first 4-cylinder. First bike I did engine performance modifications on -big bored to 819cc using stock 1.0mm o/s GS425 pistons and rings for a 3mm over-bore. Loved that bike.

    Stock Airbox Parts '82 GS650G

Sorry, fella! For the number of vintage jap bikes that run pods, you'd think there must be a pile of air-boxes somewhere?

    1980 gs1000g

Well, you'd think to flick a shim it would have to be in serious valve float/bent valve territory In his book Croz: Larrikin Biker, Graeme Crosby wrote about the 8-valve GS superbikes he raced (including the XR69) were sensitive to rpm limits, and lunched their valve-trains if they over-revved...

    Stock Airbox Parts '82 GS650G

Yep, the cover holds the filter in place. The cover has a "D" shaped internal ridge that locates against the filter/cage assembly, so the filter is 'sandwiched' between the cover and back of the airbox. The cover its self is held in place with two sliding metal clips.

    VM26SS issues?

By "adjust the points" you mean set the gap? Or do you also mean set the ignition timing using a timing light?

    79 850 g, no keys

Remove the headlight and follow the wiring from the ignition key switch back into the headlight shell. There will be a 4 wire connector. Disconnect the connector. It has four wires. Red, Orange, Grey, and Brown. Make two jumpers using short lengths of insulated auto wire with spade connector...

    motor goes wild by starting

OK. As others have already posted, its likely that the carburetor butterfly plates are jammed either partially or completely open. The throttle handle and cable pull on a quadrant that rotates a shaft that passes through the front of all four carbs, close to where the go into the manifold...

    Crooked Slide Needle

Probably not. The carbs are a zinc alloy. I've had a set that discolored during chemical cleaning and no ill effects. The chemical reaction is on the surface and will be microns thin. Post a photo of yours. BTW, you can pre-set the pilot mixture screws before you put the carbs on the bike. This...

    70s - 80s 2 strokes

TZ's were over the counter racing machines, never intended for the street. I did however once a long time ago (mid 1970s) see a TZ either 250 or 350 with a headlight parked on the side of of the street. It had to be a TZ because it was a water-cooled twin, and this was well before the RD/RZ...

    Crooked Slide Needle

The spring loading of the needle at an angle is a design feature and is normal. The spring and bump in the plastic cap preloads the needle at an angle and stops it from rattling around in the needle jet. Remember the flow through the carb is stop-start with only 1 stroke out of 4 being intake...
