All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'83 1100E very hard starting, starter motor switching directions

Current draw (amperage) is proportional to load, and the load is whatever is required to overcome internal friction and compression and crank the engine at a fast enough to start. So current draw isn't fixed, with cold starting requiring more current than a warm engine with thinner oil and...

    Wobble at low speeds

Could be a number of things. If it was me I'd start at the nose and end at the tail. Front wheel bearings OK? Front axle spacers correct? Pinch bolts/caps correctly gapped/nuts torqued correctly? Fork tubes straight? Fork yolks (triple trees) not bent? Forks aligned correctly? Steering stem...

    Sticking Slides

No worries, mate:). I'm interested in what your goal is? Or are you purely experimenting with intake and carburation? By asking about the comparison and measurement suggest that you are looking for something, is it improvement over stock? There is a wealth of hypothesis, trial and error...

'83 1100E very hard starting, starter motor switching directions

Have you actually got it to start and run since it stopped? It's unclear from what I've read. I may have missed it, there's a lot to read.:)

    Spark Plug Reading

Plugs (if not run for too long/old) tell you what what was happening when you killed the ignition. So think of them as a snapshot. I found this useful re: plug reading https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/%2A%2A%2A-basics-reading-spark-plug%2A%2A%2A-3063102/ If it were me, on the...

    Sticking Slides

The "plastic cups" in the video are blocking/partially blocking the pilot air jet, the main air bleed inlet/jet to the emulsion tube and the vent to the space below the diaphragm. So you are altering the pilot mixture, the needle/main jet mixture and the pressure differential that lifts the...

    Sticking Slides

The oscillating slide movement at lower rpm is normal. The air velocity under the slides (and so the vacuum experienced by the slide) is never constant. Intake is one phase out of four and the carb is only ever exposed to pulsating air flow, never uniform continuous flow like a vacuum cleaner...

    High Headwinds Stutter

Sounds like the cross wind is disturbing creating a momentary partial vacuum at the airbox intake (generally air moving faster = lower pressure).

    Front brake pad replacements

If you have no air bubbles in the brake lines/calipers, another source of long lever travel is sticking caliper piston seals. The caliper piston has to be able to slip through the seal to take up the wear at the pads. This is why you have to push the piston in when you fit new pads. When you...

    Need some Carb Advice

There's a huge clue. Before you pull your carbs off again, check the leads to the coils. The coil system is wasted spark with one of the coils firing 1 and 4 (approaching TDC with one cylinder on compression the other at the end of its exhaust stroke) and the other coil firing 2 and 3. With...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Yes, Hampton Downs is owned by Tony Quinn. He also has two other tracks around the country. There was a lunch-time 'track cruise' for the general public. A couple of laps during the lunchtime break at the racing, you just had to sign up on the day. About 50 bikes of various types on the track...

No Spark on 2 and 3! Frustrating as can be.

You might want to check your wiring loom too. To blow fuses like that you sounds like an intermittent short to ground. The insulation on a 40+ year old bike wiring can get brittle and worn where is subjected to movement around the steering head. The horn on my 650 used to come on when I turned...

    Grime in Valve Cover

Its really important that you measure the clearance between the tappet screws and valve stems with the cams in the correct position as per the workshop manual. There is clearance between the cam journals and the bearing beds and caps and correct positioning stops inaccurate measurement caused by...

Need help with GSX400 cam timing

Oh it's a twin. My mis-read. We got the GSX400 four cylinder (Impulse) here in NZ (as well as the GSX400 TSCC twin, and the 2-valve GS450 Twin)

Need help with GSX400 cam timing

This is the correct orientation of the cam sprocket arrows with the timing mark "T 1.4" aligned to the pointer. This from the 750 manual, but it should be the same. Notice that the slots in the cam ends are pointing at each other.

    Oddball GS1000 Carb - parts?

Yep, that looks like an accelerator pump diaphragm with the lower cover and diaphragm/push-rod removed. The photo on the throttle cable thread shows that the carbs are mechanical slides, the butterflies are upstream of the slides which means that they are choke plates.
