A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Ditching Air assisted front forks

Similar, but differently, a few years ago I tried to fit my old GS850 manual-adjust pre-load caps onto a set of GS1000 legs. They didn't fit, the threads were a different pitch. If it weren't for that, the idea would have worked. I ended up making a set of diy pre-loaders. What might work for...

    Rear Shocks

Be cautious about fitting short rear shocks to a shafty, it will cause the uni joint to work much harder and could prematurely fail.

    Replacing a camshaft sprocket?

Small blowtorch or electric heat gun and heat the bolts and where they screw into, will soften up the loctite.

    Bike randomly died while riding.

If it dies suddenly then 99% it's the main or ignition fuse (or one of the connectors to and from them). Fuel problems tend to splutter before dying.

    GS550e Middle kick stand help.

Best place is a new OEM spring, all others are 40 years old. I've used the washers and coins trick a few times, another couple times put one bolt in and heaved it into line on the other side. The washer technique will not damage a good spring - look at how much it stretches when in in use.

    Hanging idle troubleshoot help

If you took them off after synching, you need to address that again. It would be worth your while to get a set of gauges or a Morgan Carbtune and learn how to use them (it's easy enough).

    Front brake pad replacements

I'm inclined to believe it's lost motion in those calipers, if they're original and need a rebuild. If they're too old and worn, there's nothing to be done, just replace them.

When your Petcock is too big for its britches

Just keep looking, because there are some petcock bodies on the third party market that utilise a brass blanking screw on the un-used side, and they definitely can be used according to which side you want the outlet to be on. If yours is the 50mm hole spacing, you might be out of luck... so...

    Front brake pad replacements

Euro-market GS1000G with the 1980-onwards calipers? Don't make the mistake of using too small a master cylinder with them, it will work great on the second pump, but there's too much lost motion with these calipers to make them safe with a small master cylinder. Use a 5/8" bore m.c. with...

    1979 GS850 - Rear Brake issues

That blasted rear caliper loves to sieze up just for fun, if it's neglected for just long enough - and ideally it should be rebuilt every decade or so. Hands up all who never do theirs? I thought so... Anyway, found out the hard way that it's easy enough and once done is good for another decade...

    Newbie through and through

The ignition switch supplies constant 12V to the coils and the other legs of the coils are individually connected to the ignitor box (in the OEM setup) or the Dyna box in the new system you have. The ignitor / Dyna switches the grounding of the coils on and off to give you the sparkz.
