A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Old GS handling limitations

One thing I have not heard mentioned is tire pressure. In the old tests of these bikes back when they were new, the writers often found that increasing tire pressure by 3-4 pounds over what the manual says would make handling better. Have you looked at that yet?

Engine starts to miss above 5000 RPMs

Look for air leaks in the carb boots.

How fast is is your old GS?

I once got my old GS1100E up to 8000 rpm in fifth. That calculated to about 135. (on a state highway out in the middle of nowhere, Ohio). It was still pulling, had more in it. But the 'Vette I was running against was beat at 135 so I didn't try for 140.

How long does the stock r/r typically last ?

I have an R/R for my gs850g. It seems to have come from just outside Hong Kong, or so it appears from the invoice. Should I go ahead and install it, or toss it? There are no markings at all on the part. It was cheap enough to toss if it's junk, so......is it junk or not? Also, where do I find...

    Barn bike: runs great now

So, anyway, I've got the new r/r, fresh out of Taiwan, and now I need the plugs and wires to connect it. Anyone know where I can find these? I suppose I could just run wires direct without using the plugs, but don' t wanna. Wouldn't be prudent.

    Barn bike: runs great now

I took the Ratzuki down to Columbus last month to visit some family. About 140 miles the way I went, which was to stay off the main roads. I took sr81 to Lima, then took sr 309 thru Kenton, almost to Marion. Got off 309 at Big Island and took sr203 down to Delaware. Prettiest part of the trip-...

    Drilling main jets

Even in a lathe, I wouldn't trust a drill to keep to size . A reamer might do better, but still wouldn't trust the hole to be to size.

    Heat soak misfire

I had a problem with my old GS1000 years ago. It would run all right for a while then start to lose power, and finally quit. Finally tracked it down to the boots between the carbs and head, they had cracks that would let air in. Slathered them with silicone seal and they were fine after that...

    Barn bike: runs great now

Well, the Ratzuki is still running great but I found cracks in the tread of the front tire, so it's new tire time. what do you guys recommend for a not very fast old Suzi? (81 GS 850G) I don't want to spend a mint on this but a good tire is necessary. Not very fast is my riding style, not the...

who do we like for fuel T

A quick fix for cracked rubber fittings would be silicone seal. Jus rub some over the cracks and youre good for a while. I did that on my old gs1000 and it worked. It would certainly last long enough to get your replacement parts in.

    Barn bike: runs great now

Man that was good. Just took a short ride thru the farm country here in NW Ohio (Van Wert County) and I wonder why I waited so long to get back into motorcycling. The Ratzuki runs like it just left the factory, and the weather is starting to warm up with all summer ahead. Good Times.

    Barn bike: runs great now

Thanks for the warm welcome. Sorry I don't do pics, don't have a camera and don't intend to get one. Ive been riding GSs since the late 70s and still think theyre great machines. Started riding in 75 on an old Kawa 175 enduro (total piece of crap but I didn't know anything then.) Moved up to a...

    Barn bike: runs great now

Hi everyone. I found a 81 gs850g in a barn a while back and the owner just said take it, so I did. Got the title in my name and started finding what needed done. Getting the pipes off I broke 3 bolts in the head, so that meant removing the head (and cylinder, to replace the base gasket) taking...
