If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hi Pete, glad to see you back on GSR mate. Yeah, we bolted the Kat back together at Derek's place a few weeks ago. Once the ring break in is done the Kat will be back on the North Side for some fun. The oil leak it had seems to have been cured, amazing how the oil stays inside the engine after...

The weight reduction continues, it is only a few grams this time but every gram removed helps. The catch can breather never looked right so this weekend I swapped it for a lighter breather. breather 1 by Max Mutarn, on Flickr Breather 3 by Max Mutarn, on Flickr

what did you wrench on today??

Hi Darryl, love ya work mate, detailed and spot on as usual. Parts on scales, that is Kat-nip to me, well done on the refresh and giving the 'G' a boost. Ya know that wasn't easy to say for me. Cheers.

    Pod Filters?

Yes, tuning with the 02 sensor took it up through jets starting at 125 mains and finishing with 160 main jets. One of my friends has a very extensive range of Mikuni jets so we were able to go through them (9 sizes) until we hit the Goldilocks size jets. To be fair this is not a stock scooter...

    Pod Filters?

Deleting the stock airbox makes some maintenance tasks soo much easier, like removing the carbs in less than 4 minutes and installing them in about 10 minutes. I stopped using pods and filter socks and now use stainless screens. Used an 02 sensor to find the optimum jetting to use with the...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

After the first 300 km test ride an oil change and inspection on the new engine found no problems. A few of the valve clearances needed adjusting and one of the cam followers was swapped for one with less wear to the face hardening. All the head stud nuts had backed off a few Nm and so all of...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Have now clocked up the first 300 km after installing the new 1197 cc piston kit and refurbished valve train, all going well so far. Drained the engine oil, removed the filter, removed the sump and oil pick-up and inspected each of them. Found some fine metal particles in the filter which were...

    High Miles?

In this part of the world 100,000 to 150,000 km is considered normal mileage for an 1100E. My GS1100G had 420,000 km and still going strong when I sold it to a friend who was keen to have a well maintained 1100G for riding to Bike Rallays. One of my 1982 1100 Katana (it's the one in my Avatar...

Yesterday was also the first ride with the modified fork pre-load units installed and they worked very well. The 29 mm spacers were used and the front tyre pressure in the Bridgestone T32 Radial was 34 PSI with 40 PSI for the rear. Going for a ride tomorrow and will drop the pressure to 33 front...

The ignition cover is pretty light at 1.89 mm thick and when it is painted and the Suzi emblem plate is attached the grinding will be out of sight thankfully. From 245 grams down to 123 grams is a good result and one of those mods that will never be seen. Had to add 10 grams to the 235 gram pic...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Going to swap the OEM Kat fork pre-load units for modified GS1000 fork caps. The GS 1000 caps need to have some machining done to fit the Kat forks however, that is good news, they will be lighter by a few grams. After the caps have been trimmed I'll have the final weights for both units. OEM...
