DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

It's definately head gasket area. I havent tried retorquing yet. Are all the head bolts accessable from the out side or will I need to remove the valve cover to get at a few?

This is what this thread is for.....I thought they were reuseable metal inserts I'm buying all OEM parts. (Just to keep the "plus ones" and "what he saids" to a minimum.) Does the head gasket pn 11141-49410 still require the o-ring? I've read several other threads stating no, but parts houses...

    cylinder head advice

The leak is up higher at the valve cover/ head gasket level. I'm wondering if I should get any timing chain related parts or are those parts really robust. I've got a $400 budget including shipping. I just want to open it the one time. And yes two driveway "oopses" on that side. TIA

    cylinder head advice

I'm a cylinder head noob. There... I said it. I do Automotive repair for a living, so I'm no stranger to the inside of an engine. This is just my first time 'cracking' an aircooled engine. I've developed an oil leak coming from the left (clutch side) front of the engine. I went through and...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Rode to work this morning. Discovered i had no rear brake. Guess I'm done for the year. :( I think the rubber shrank from the cold and quit sealing in the master cylinder. The resevoir was full when i got to work.)

Does the 78 GS1000 share airbox with any other models?

I can say that the 79 gs750 box fits the 79gs850 no mods. If the 850 crosses over to the 1000, then I'd think the 750 would too. That being said I can't see why the shafty vs chain would make a difference. The apples and oranges may be the differences between the 750/850 vs 1000? Just thought...

had the same thing happen with one of my jeeps. It sucks! I can't really answer your tech question, but I just wanted you to know I feel your (emotional) pain. (I hurt my wrist and back in my wreck. Probably a lot less painful than your injury.)

Will my GS1000G start without a battery?

the starter is drawing the charger voltage down below the threshold needed for the coils to fire. short answer, yes it needs a battery to fire. or a much stronger battery charger. unless you knew it was running before battery removal you may need to consider other issues. (carbs, state...

The piston rings probably just reseated themselves from being stored for so long. Ride it as often as you can and fog the engine come storage season.

So just to clarify, the nickle was a temp measure to allow the engine to rotate back into position to install the correct shim?

Oil cooler plug for engine degrease and paint

Can you match the threads to a pair of short bolts at the hardware store? If so, use a pair of the old sealing rings from the banjos to seal the galleys.
