A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    1981 GS650g carb problems

Several good videos on YouTube on dismantling these carbs. Go slow and follow the tutorial. Make sure your screw driver you use to remove the air fuel mixture screw is a full tight fit to the slot head as the screw heads are often difficult to remove or loosen and they easily deformed making...

    1981 GS650g carb problems

Let me know which carb has the broken post and I'll check and see if I have a replacement for you. I am in BC so mailing it is pretty easy.

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

Again ... Costs a bit more but sand blasting and powder coating (mat black) is the way to go. I've done three GS models this way and I am very pleased with the results. The finish is very even, completely clean and durable. I've cleaned and painted a few but prefer the powder coating route.

    Repainting GS Front Shocks

I like to restore GS models but have struggled to get the shocks on the front looking original. I usually end up polishing them as I couldn't find any paint to match or replicate the original factory grey colour (Canadian spelling for color). So today I tried Rust-Oleum Painters Touch Aluminium...

    1981 GS650G sat for almost 20 years

I have to agree, I have rebuilt a few petcocks and had difficulty with them. I'd recommend a new after market QUALITY unit. I have bought four of these and used them on GS projects and they were flawless...

    Ignition help gs650e

If the button is stuck and you attempt to disassemble the starter button housing be sure to do so on a work bench with a towel beneath your work as some of the parts came flying out when I did it and bounced off the bench on to the floor ... Took me a bit to find them. And pay close attention...

    Stator and R/R Replacement on a 650G

I had to return not one but two stacked to RMStator for exchange. There was nothing wrong with them except they were the wrong stacked for my bike but the labels on the boxes said they were. They were great to deal with and most apologetic. Poop happens and I didn't get twisted about it...

A Late Introduction from Kelowna BC

Welcome! You've come to the right place! And you've picked up a great bike to ride and learn. I have three GS650G's I'm my garbage right now, my wife thinks there's only two. I am just up the road in Kamloops and would be happy to help you if/when you are facing your next repair or...

    Upper shock bolt broke!!

I snapped one off of my 650G and had a shoulder bolt (or screw which ever is the correct term) with the head cut off it welded on. It had the same threads as the original. Worked like a charm.

    Stator and R/R Replacement on a 650G

RMStator folks are top drawer and a Canadian company which eliminates some issues/cost of dealing with eBay sellers in the US as shipping and the dollar exchange can drive up the overall price. Having said that RMStator stuff isn't cheap. They are VERY good to deal with and have VERY good...

    Stator and R/R Replacement on a 650G

R\R on the GS650G is mounted on the underside of the air box with the CDI above it. You can see it and access it from the battery box side by removing the battery and battery box. lots of screws and bolts to remove but pretty easy overall to get at and remove and replace. My two cents of...

Shims ... What's the Most Common from the Factory

I wouldn't think that modern bikes use the old 29mm shims. One fellow in town that has been working on bikes for 40 Yeats that I visited in search of the correct sizes had a nice Suzuki factory box of shims. Many of them mid sizes were gone but there were probably 40 to 50 others. He...

Shims ... What's the Most Common from the Factory

Instead of resorting to eBay I went to the Suzuki dealership in town, which I rarely visit, figuring they probably charge me an arm and a leg for the two shims I needed ... Nope, they gave them to me for free ... needless to say I was pretty happy and as such I will likely pop by there from time...

Shims ... What's the Most Common from the Factory

Lots of helpful information here that has confirmed my beliefs of what is occurring with the valves. I went to a fellow "Suzukian" across town today to borrow his stash of shims. He is 79, rides every chance he has, has had 40 bikes over the years, mostly Suzukis. The thinnest shim he had of...

Shims ... What's the Most Common from the Factory

I am restoring another GS650G 1982, It was my parts bike from my original restoration ... couldn't stand seeing it sit there and not on the road. So ... I bought another parts bike for it. I was "harvesting the shims" from my part's bike part's bike .... and 7 out of 8 were 2.70...

81 550T not starting after maintenance

On the heels of Baatfam's suggestion, try rigging up an auxiliary fuel tank/line. If it works or is much better it will tell you your petcock is the issue. In all of my restoration/rebuilds, I buy a new Suzuki petcock ... old ones fail, and aftermarket variations that kind of fit are crap...

Front Wheel Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Size

Ya they're actually cheaper than a rebuild kit. It was hit and miss as to whether the rebuild kit would work for me as often there is unseen corrosion in the body of the old device and they'd eventually leak.

Front Wheel Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Size

Yup it works great. Matter of fact I went for a rip on it today and it worked great. I have new braided stainless brake lines on it and stops great. Interestingly I am now restoring the parts bike I had picked up for the bike I mentioned in this previous post. It too has an eBay cheapo brake...

    needing exhaust

I have 2 1982 GS650G's that I have restored in the last few years. The second one is nearly completed. I bought stock exhaust used off eBay for each. The stock exhaust are not plentiful but they are available. I made sure that the ones I bought were from bikes that had relatively low miles...
