I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Where to Buy Replacement Battery Cables

Okay, today I set the ignition switch to "ON" and tested my battery first. Before setting the ignition to "ON" I had a reading of 12.2V. Once the ignition switch was set to "ON" my reading at the battery dropped to 1.1V. Does this mean my battery is at issue?

Where to Buy Replacement Battery Cables

My meter probes were connected to the red and orange wire connections at the back of the ignition switch. I had readings of 0 when the ignition switch was positioned at "ON." When the ignition switch was set anywhere other than "ON" I got readings of 12.3 or so (same as my reading at the battery...

Where to Buy Replacement Battery Cables

Okay, I was able to poke around some more today (been busy with work etc.) I detached the headlight, so I had more room to test the ignition switch, and I found that I was getting good readings to the ignition switch with the key in any position except for "ON." Is this normal? I assume I...

Where to Buy Replacement Battery Cables

Well I finally got after it for a while today. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything yet. I did get a little experience with my multimeter and am getting a good reading from the battery, starter solenoid, and fusebox (all about 12.46V). I took a look at my connections and they didn't have any...

Where to Buy Replacement Battery Cables

I have a multimeter, which I haven't used. The electronic side of things is definitely a weak point for me. I'll look into using it. I can find a wiring diagram on here or Basscliff's website. I'm going to disconnect the battery and take a look tomorrow. Since my lights etc. were restored after...

Where to Buy Replacement Battery Cables

I guess I meant the wires going to and from the battery to the starter solenoid. Someone in an old thread referred to them as cables. I'll take a look around the steering head too, that makes sense. Thanks!

Where to Buy Replacement Battery Cables

Hey all, I recently went to start my bike (1980 GS850L) and when I clicked the starter button, I lost all power (lights went out etc.) I then poked around and when I turned my handlebars all the way over my lights came back. I again clicked the starter button, but I again lost all power. I...

Just got my first motorcycle.Never ridden before

Welcome, the people on here are great and helpful with pretty much anything you could imagine, and probably some things you can't. Definitely take an MSF or Abate class. When I did mine it allowed me to not take any further testing or classes etc. So, in addition to being super helpful and...

    1980 GS1100LT Cleanup

Loto, this project has been a lot of fun to follow and I love the look of your bike with the high back seat etc! If the new plugs are in spec, personally I'd say leave them be at .027 and install them.

    Buying parts at the dealer

I just ordered the bolts/gaskets for my petcock from Fay Myers and shipping was half of what Online Cycle Parts estimated. Thanks for the write-up! I've been on flea-bay mostly for my parts, but options are always a plus.

    Buying parts at the dealer

bwringer, how are they (by they I mean onlinecycleparts.com/) for shipping in your experience? They seem to have good stock, but their shipping costs seem high. I was looking to order a couple little o-rings/washers for the bolts on my new petcock along with the bolts and shipping was going to...

New petcock, cracked fuel outlet hose, replace hose? Faulty petcock?

So I was finally able to take a look and appears one of the rubber washers stuck to the old petcock (see photo) and the other stuck to the bolt and is on the new petcock. It looks like I can pickup replacements here...

New petcock, cracked fuel outlet hose, replace hose? Faulty petcock?

Okay, I'll check when I'm home, but I don't think they were included and the old ones were probably disintegrated. Now I'll have to look into replacements.

New petcock, cracked fuel outlet hose, replace hose? Faulty petcock?

Hey everybody, I've been working on my 1980 GS850L for awhile now and recently replaced the carb boots, airbox hoses, etc. At this time, I also replaced the petcock as it had dried up fuel etc. on it and looked pretty rough. I hadn't had any issues with it specifically, but thought it best to...
