A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    My 1982 GS 450 - journal thread

ignorance is bliss Now that I have a voltmeter on my dash, I can see that there's a problem. Before, I just hoped/assumed that it was fine since it seemed to be starting and running fine for months, until I overtaxed the battery with the aux lights. I got a new battery and charged it up, then...

    My 1982 GS 450 - journal thread

updates. there's always some little thing to mess around with (and throw 30 bucks at here or there...) the new headlight bucket is not very good. something's loose in there and it buzzes horribly. and i think the vibration of it keeps killing every led bulb i try. they could just be self...

    My 1982 GS 450 - journal thread

well in my case it didn't turn out to be related to the needle, it turned out to be wrongly adjusted idle jet metering screws. I had to turn them out a lot further than common wisdom would recommend (it was running very lean at the recommended 2 ish turns out and needed a couple more turns out...

    82 gs450 second gear

I've noticed lately that second gear is sometimes a little grumpy. I have a lot of missed upshifts into neutral and the occasional downshift from third into in between gears. Wondering if this is technique on my part, a known mechanical quirk, or a sign that something is messed up inside the...

    Saddle Bag/Sissy Bar

i don't know how helpful this is, but, i have a 450t and it thankfully came with a sissy bar from the p.o.; it has a large luggage rack in the back, big enough to strap down my 75 liter backpacking pack to it. here's what it looks like. it mounts at the shock bolts and the seat/blinker bolts...

    SH775 wire harness guidance

i used those triumph leads, i just chopped those block connector things off, chopped the wire ends off of the old r/r, and soldered the two together. then i could just plug it in like the old one was. the wires are plenty long. too long really. i have a phobia of chopping wires too short ...

    My 1982 GS 450 - journal thread

~500 mile update. everything's running just fine. It's raining today, so instead of riding, I installed a different headlight bucket (emgo 66-64313D) so i can run automotive lamps instead of sealed beams - which they don't apparently even make my size of them anymore (some kind of honda special...

    Pic of the week game

well... you can't see the picnic table in the photo because i'm sitting on it :) i've been coming to this park for probably 15 years, this is my first trip there on a motorcycle. i snagged this nice table under this big tree, this spot is always taken when I go there due to the nice shade and...

    My 1982 GS 450 - journal thread

today was the test ride, everything was working great. i'm a new rider so i didn't go more than about 25mph, back and forth up my street, but the engine is good, brakes, clutch, trans, everything's working really well. only two problems left. slight oil leak, seemingly from the chain tensioner...

Mikuni BS/CV and VM O-ring Kits

i have the older carbs (and some digital calipers). there are three o-rings. the float bowl drain plugs, the emulsion tubes, and the mixture screws. you can still buy the bowl plug o rings (13249-41310) and the emulsion tube o rings (09280-03003) from places like suzuki parts house. For the...

yes! i finally figured out the carb issue! fortunately it was user error and nothing was actually broken! good to know on the wheels. i might think about switching wheels at some point. i do worry that these old timey wheel sizes will go out of production. I was finally able to get a good front...

gs450 - still not running right

Well I figured it out finally. I took the carbs back off to swap another piece. Only a couple things left to try - the bowls were gonna be next. But I just sat there for like an hour, looking through it with the bowls off and thinking about it. Following the passages. Spraying carb juice through...

yea, i will tomorrow when i take it back apart. i took video of it but my video cam refused to focus on it. here's a video i made of todays carburetor adventure. engine run starts at around 4 minutes. i ran it from pretty much stone cold until it was fully hot.

okay. i got the carbies back on the table. sure enough that really buggered up emulsifier tube was in the right hand one. the o-rings on both are all chewed up, but especially the one that was in the right cyl (the cold one). i'm wondering if the gouges from this screwed up emulsifier cut into...

gs450 - still not running right

i've heard people say this online. the EPA stuff is really frustrating. my carbs also have non adjustable needles, and jetting that's right on the brink of being too lean. thanks to EPA "eMiSsIoNs StAnDaRdS" :chargrined: i'm not sure that i can justify buying and ultrasonic cleaner unless I...

gs450 - still not running right

the booklet it comes with says, if your bike doesn't pull enough vacuum to move the slides with it right side up, you can use it upside down to get the sync right, and just ignore the quantitative reading, to get it in sync without taking measurements. mine wasn't strong enough to lift the...
