A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Cylinder swap, 79 GS750 to a 81 GS850?

Will the cylinders from a 1981 GS850 bolt up to a 1979 GS 750 engine and head?

    Valve shimming and tuning (GS450E)

"IMHO" it would make zero sense to remove or lift the cams to shim. The chain tensioner knob is not suppose to turn while installed and set.

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

Handlebars, mirrors and brake master cylinder are next in line to be replaced with stock parts. Just waiting on new grips to arrive. The stock mirrors and handlebars came with the bike when I purchased it.

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

I have to say that, this GS550e has Never run better since I've owned it. I don't believe that CV carburetors were ever designed for pod filters. I had installed the DNA pods which fit perfectly and are very expensive, but I could not get it to run right. The stock airbox, airfilter and exhaust...

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

Close up of the stock airbox. Note that the PO cut the unobtanium stock side covers to fit the cheap pods.

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

Picture below is after the stock airbox, headlight and exhaust were installed. I must say that stock airbox install was one of the toughest jobs I've done to date.

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

Waiting on some OEM clamps for the intake to carb and air box. Carbs will get one size up from stock on main and slow jets. Note to self.... Adjust cam chain tensioner while in this state of disassembly. Almost No access if the carbs are installed.

    Stock headlight looks much better.

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

Led headlight is much brighter than stock but doesn't, IMHO, look right for this bike.

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

Stock exhaust is absolutely pristine, top and bottom.

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

These are some of the things I removed to get this project started. The Delkivic exhaust sounded great but it ran like crap.

80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

Pic below is my 1980 GS550E with around 8,200 miles on it. After buying it on FB, I brought it home and did what I would have done in 1980. I put a header system/ carb tune and Quality air pods on it. It ran pretty well and sounded great but didn't look like a 1980 GS550E. So, she is going back...

Cleaning surface rust off the chrome on my 77 GS

The secret, is No secret. Been around for a long time. I use it in the process of restoring pre WW2 Winchester Lever guns. Remember to soak the chrome in wd for a while before using this stuff. Note that "Bluing" is much thinner that chrome

Cleaning surface rust off the chrome on my 77 GS

When I say "surface rust" I mean "On the Surface".... if the rust has penetrated the chrome down to the metal, then this stuff will Not help. Picture below is the chrome exhaust on the 77 GS750 I purchased off fb. Note the rust on the entire exhaust . Lucky for me it was just surface rust...

    My 1977 GS750 is complete!

0000 wool or scotchbrite will leave scratches on chrome, though they may be tiny, this stuff will not.
