    Painting Bike parts

I misunderstood your situation. You have no choice but to blend the silver. I would still spray a couple of light coats of primer on the sand through to protect the edges from lifting. Then spray the silver followed by a couple of coats of clear before letting it dry overnight. Sand lightly...

    Dented 1000s tank restore

Well, that sucks, Chuck. I've had the same thing happen to me in the past. Shooting an almost finished part across the shop is a horrifying sight... Buffers have a tendency to bite..

    Painting Bike parts

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about blending in your base coat and clear coats. I would first sand your tank completely with 600 then spray your sand-throughs with a couple of light coats of primer. Otherwise base coat may eat through the outside edges of your sanded areas. Spray the entire...

    My Return to 2 wheels. A 1982 GS125.

I restored a 1972 Honda CL100 a couple of years ago and used it during the summer months as a commuter to and from work, and thoroughly enjoy riding it. So much fun and boy does it receive attention at gas stops, more then my GS1000S actually..everyone has a story about something similar in...

Sorry for the late reply, just noticed you left me a message. Mine is in good shape but thank you for thinking of me. You never know when a plastic piece 40 years old is gonna go bad.

    Loaded question gs or cb

    I grew up riding and racing Hondas. I still have 5..an '82 MB5, a '72 CL100, a '76 550F, a '77 GL1000, and an '82 CX500 Turbo. I love them all. Riding a Suzuki was almost sacrilegious to the group of riders I belonged to..until..I saw a '79 GS1000S. I lusted after one of them for 30 years before...

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

I once saw Lee tear a brand new out of the crate 1981 CB900F down to the bare frame in one morning, I painted the frame red, and he reassembled it all in the same day. Maybe 8 hours of work total. He traded that for a 1982 CBX that he would adjust the valves on every 2,000 miles, just for fun

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

You and several others were correct about a piece of crap not allowing the needle to close for sure, Chuck. I was just hoping the seafoam would clean it up w/o having to pull the carbs..which it didn't. Both fuel lines are in good shape so they went back on. Amazing how small the obstruction...

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

Just a quick update on my carb problem. The good news is my Honda Tech friend was finally able to come for a visit from 100 miles away. We spent Saturday pulling the carb rack off the 550F and disassembling all 4 carbs. They were amazingly clean and easy to take apart. Installed a new needle...

    My 1977 GS750 is complete!

Beautiful bike. A lot of effort went into it, you can tell. The exhaust is amazing, Did the tank and body parts just need to be cleaned up rather then re-painted?

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Those are very cool pics, Trevor. I'll bet your son and wife had a good time, too. The family that bikes together stays together. ;)

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

The bike actually runs great. I put about 20 miles on it after putting the Seafoam into the gas tank. The carb overflow continued to spit gas at a 30 second interval. That's when I thought I'd try Chuck's method of straight Seafoam in the carbs overnight, drain, fill with gas, go for a ride and...

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

Well..no go on the 550F. After letting the Seafoam soak in the carbs overnight, the carb still spurts gas out of the overflow tubes. I guess it's time to pull the carbs and have a look-see inside. I'll order new rubber intakes and rebuild kits to have on hand. Thanks for all the help.

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

Thanks for all the insight, guys. The fuel lines on the bike are actual fuel lines and look to be fine, thanks for making me look. I turned the petcock on this morning, and sure enough it's still spurting a stream of gas out of the overflow tube just about every 30 seconds or so. Almost like...

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

He told me it would damage rubber o-rings and just gum the small parts up worse. Earlier this afternoon I put about half a can into about three gallons of gas in the tank. Took it for a ride to get it mixed into the carbs, but it didn't help..at least directly after my ride. The one carb...

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

Thanks Steve, that was the first thing I did with my limited mechanical abilities. It seemed to help a bit but was not the cure all. I have a friend whose an excellent car mechanic that has told me not to use Seafoam, but I thought I'd pass along the question to my fellow motorcycle riders and...

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

I just brought my '76 Honda 550F Super Sport out of a 12 year hibernation. Before I tucked it away I poured Stabil in the gas tank ran it around the block several times to get it through the carbs, parked it and drained the carbs. I was amazed that it fired right up and runs perfect. It...

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

Hard to say jdub. It all depends on what condition the parts are in as far as prep hours needed before painting starts. When you start getting into the labor for repairing dents or rust, then add the cost of plastic filler, primer, sealer, multiple grades of sandpaper, it starts to add up...

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

Considering one roll of 3/4" 3M masking tape cost 16 bux a roll and a quart of clear w/hardener is over $200 these days that's almost a bargain with the cost of quality materials coming in at about half of that quote. If the guy's good, that quote isn't out of line and he's only pocketing about...
