A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

You don't even need to remove the tip for that. There's a vent hole near the tip and works just fine for shrinking.

Dyna 2000 Install Help on my 1979 GS850G

Actually with the Dyna 2000 you will have to tweek the timing since it's programmable and the default table may not be appropriate. Unlike the Dyna S that uses the stock mechanical advance curve. If you bike has that mechanical advance it will act in conjunction with the program advancements...

    GS650G - Choke/Starter Cable Obsolete

The longer L cable should work fine as long as it's the same style choke lever on the handlebar. I usually upgrade all of my bikes to the later style handlebar lever choke as opposed to the one mounted in the center of the triple trees. Never ran into a cable compatibility problem. The extra...

    82 GS1100GL Charging issues

System will not operate properly without a battery and will certainly not with a compromised charging system. From those numbers I'd say your system is a bit anemic. Did you start with a fully charged battery?

Actually I thing the tach wire is an output for an electronic tachometer. Not needed for a GS.

Please! Help! Know repeating common problems is annoying but need advice.

Here's couple places to start: 1: Verify the voltage at the coils +12V lines AFTER the connector and before the coil. 2: Have you vacuum synced the carbs? 3: Have you checked your carb float levels and if so how? 4: Assuming you still have an airbox and the K/N filter is the standard insert...

Dyna 2000 Install Help on my 1979 GS850G

I wouldn't think that you would need to connect the "tach" wire at all since the ignition derives it's timing from the crank sensors and you have a mechanical tach that derives it's input through the cam gears. As I understand it, the tach signal is and output from the ignition module to drive...

    Broken Mixture Screw Tips

Based on this pic: = I'd say you've done a pretty good job at damaging the mixture screw jet tip. It may be buggered up enough that it will no longer pass through the opening backwards. I don't see any "tip" protruding down anymore. You may need to lightly sand the surface in order to remove...

    Broken Mixture Screw Tips

Might want to look for a dental pick set like this one at Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dental-Pick-Set/39510686 Quite handy when working on carb orings too.

    Broken Mixture Screw Tips

BS carbs are CV carbs. The mixture screws don't go through any 90 degree turn. The screws go straight down from the top and through to the inside barrel of the carb through that hole that looks like it's been prodded over and over. You can extract that by using a piece of bristle from a steel...

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

Ouch! that's a bit of a hack job. Those connections are just wrong. There should be no connections behind the stator cover. I'd solder and heat shrink tube them over and do the same at the R/R side. Cover all the wires that are under any engine covers with with either heat shrink or some...

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

Installed my new Caltric stator. Was surprised to see I still had low charge voltage. Went back through everything and to my dismay I found a short from one leg of the stator to ground. Tore everything apart again expecting a pinch wire but did not see any problems at first. On a closer...

    Recommend a Noob Soldering Kit

You can pick up solder at a lot of locations but the ole tried and true is Radio Shack. For most work on a bike you should go for either the 0.05" or 0.062" as apposed to 0.032" or smaller.

    Recommend a Noob Soldering Kit

When I'm working on the bike it's usually for soldering wires so the butane unit I posted a link to world best for me. Easy to use, no electrical needs and heats well for larger diameter wires and mechanical connections.

    Recommend a Noob Soldering Kit

The one thing that nobody has addressed so far is your expected purpose/use of the soldering iron. If doing fine work on printed circuits you need a very different iron than if you're purpose is large diameter wire or areas that have a large mass like ground planes. Can you give us a basic...
