A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Let's see your Cell Phone holder.

The bar begins to curve at about 1”, like you are describing, but the clamp fits nicely, as you can see. Easy to install without dismantling anything. Lots of adjustability, no rubber keeper needed, and it is solid. I see that they have a vibration-dampening version, as well.

I’ve been very happy with this rock solid phone mount and this cheapo power source/voltmeter. https://www.tackform.com/products/motorcycle-phone-mount ...

    Center Stand assist

This, plus adding a grab handle to allow much easier simultaneous lifting of the rear, makes all the difference, for me. Prior to having the handle, I had to enlist the help of another person.

    Found during oil change

Yes, found it when draining the catch pan into an oil recycling jug. Got concerned and posted before looking the engine over. I hadn’t realized there was anything out of the ordinary when re-installing the filter cover. When I figured it out, I felt silly for raising the question.

    Found during oil change

SOLVED: Acorn nut idea was spot on and got me thinking where else they are used. At least I don’t have to worry about this being an internal issue. Which of these is not like the others? Thanks for your input!

    Found during oil change

Well, well, well. I will have to check that out. Very good info, thanks! I need to retorque things, anyway.

    Found during oil change

I’d expect an oil plug to be shaped like a freeze plug, with flat sides. This chunk of metal is not shaped like that. That gives me a little hope that it isn’t oil-related, but what do I know?

As much as I’d rather not mess with it, probably a good idea.

    Found during oil change

Found this today when draining my oil catch pan after changing the oil in my ‘80 GS1100E. I’m assuming it came out of the engine. I don’t recognize it, does anyone else? It’s a perfect half sphere, is hollow, is made of steel, is about 9mm in diameter, and appears to be undamaged. Thanks!

    1980 GS1100E Rebuild

Well, I'm calling it done enough for now. Finished the cluster and headlight conversion. Made jumper harnesses and didn't cut one stock wire, so its easily reversible, if needed. Using the gear indicator for an oil pressure dummy light since we have no stock gear indicator and this gauge has...

    1980 GS1100E Rebuild

Well, I finally found the time to sort out the carb issue that I posted about in post 24 and was able to take the bike for a test spin. I found that a carb air circuit (see pic) was plugged. Had to physically clean it out. Now it runs like top! I really only have a few items to address for now...

    1980 GS1100E Rebuild

Yes, looks like exactly 1 hour away. I might be up for that, although I'd been wondering how much time I might actually have to ride this summer. Still need to sort out lost title replacement, registration, etc. and dial it in so that I trust taking it any significant distance. Maybe it won't...

    1980 GS1100E Rebuild

Thank you. I wish I had more space and my wife wishes that I'd use less of the space that we have. She has to shoehorn her SUV into the garage and I hear about it fairly often. I'm also in the doghouse because I spent much of the summer focused on the bike and car, instead of working on house...

    1980 GS1100E Rebuild

To those who've asked, under the cover is an '84 RX-7 GSL. Rock solid and rust-free in all of the typical trouble spots. I got out of the RX-7 game several years ago, then I happened across this one a couple of years ago and couldn't pass it up, based on it being rust-free. Need to rebuild...
