If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    1983 GS1000G surging around 3000...3500 rpm?

Yes, they are routed as you describe. Said foam seals were toast just like the one on the air filter top surface. I replaced all those with suitable materials and they appear to be OK now.

    1983 GS1000G surging around 3000...3500 rpm?

Cheers! Soo, I have slowly but steadily gotten the GS on the road. One crucial detail was to have carbs ultrasonic cleaned and checked for possible strange jettings etc. Everything was OK, just idle jets clogged. Jets etc. were stock sized and everything was mechanically OK. I got new...

    Greetings!

Got the bike today back from the guy who took the carbs apart and did thorough and comprehensive cleaning of them. After new intake manifolds and sealings etc. + synchronizing the GS now purrs like new. While picking the bike from him I left my EFE to him for same job.

    Alternative intake manifold rubbers/boots

Tjena! I just ordered a set of these for my -83. As far as I can tell the parts are the same. 13110-49101 (new number) were 44,- Euros each. The other ones 13120-49100 are discontinued but I found them in Ebay Germany for about 35,- Euros each. You will also need the now O-rings between...

    Rear brakes not working

I would rebuild the brake caliper and the master cylinder both and get the system sorted at once - that's what I had to do with my GS.

    Greetings!

Well, got valves adjusted and everything buttoned up and GS running. It seems that five year storage by previous owner has done it's damage and carbs need cleaning. Groups appears to be missing on idle so I contacted a guy who did my -83 Katana's carbs a decade ago. He is a bit busy so it'll...

    1984 GS1000G valve clearances?

It was for sale in Finland. Registered originally in Sweden and it was imported here a decade ago. Suzuki Finland have not been able to identify this by VIN number but that's OK. I have seen another recently for sale in Sweden so I reckon they were imported as liter bikes there for some reason.

"The bike does not have a title or registration. It is being sold on a bill of sale for display purposes only." Expensive furniture.

    1984 GS1000G valve clearances?

Thanks. Kawasakis were in my mind as IIRC the 80's Kawasakis over here had a lot of problems with valve trains. So, the measurements should be taken at positions A or B.

    1984 GS1000G valve clearances?

Out of curiosity: How is the GS valve train in general - do the clearances tend to close because of wear or do they tend to stay within spec?

Thanks. I will check the clearances again with this method. :encouragement:

    1984 GS1000G valve clearances?

    Right. I'm in a middle of valve adjustment and after adjusting three valves my clearances are now as follows: cylinder intake / mm exhaust / mm 1 0.06 0.06 2 0.05 0.06 3 0.06 0.05 4 0.05 0.05...

what did you wrench on today??

Rear brake was not working so I got a kit and took the caliper and cylinder apart. Pistons in caliper were a bit stuck but there was no corrosion. Good cleaning and new sealings and they work as new. Cylinder was completely stuck and got it open with force - luckily nothing broke. Again there...

    Greetings!

This is the only tag I can find so far: I was wondering if there is a good site (VIN "decoder") which would tell things about a particular bike of this age?

what did you wrench on today??

This is from few weeks ago: My GSX1100EF had a bit of cracks in front end dust seals and the whole front end was rather soft and tired. I was looking at springs and what else was needed when my buddy since early 70's called from local dealer informing that he has an alternative solution: a...
