79 gs550 bought for ?200 in 2011.was being used as a garden ornament by previous owner who had damaged nearly all the bikes parts in some way.
I hadn't owned a bike since 1985 and thought I could get it running and back o road for about ?500 !!
big mistake bike had worn pistons bent valves ,rusty cams all threads where damaged in head.fibre glass repairs!! to swing arm, burnt electrics , no headlight,airbox, rotten tank,that was just the start of a love hate relationship. all work done by myself except having cylinders bored and snapped exhaust bolts thread inserts fitted in replacement head. I first repaired and painted tank and panels black but then got a nos tank on ebay for ?120 and so got an aerosol made up to match the colour of tank 03J strato blue a straight blue with clear over and painted tail to match.
Bike is now back on road thanks to gs resources,ebay
,Lots of lessons learnt and I know i could have bought a tidy running gs550 for the money i have spent on this but very satisfying.
I must dig out some before during pics and add.
