If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Guys I've got 10.3 volts at the coils, I know this is a common problem and I'd hate to buy stock or dynas just yet.

I've read some posts here about by-passing the standard wires with a relay to provide a good 12v to the coils.

Can anyone here give me a step by step desrcription on how to do it?

Please know that I'm not sure what a coil primary is. Thanks.

Hey,
Not to be smart, but you have posted the link you need before in a previous thread. Wiredgeorge motorcycle carbs website has step by step instructions there

Check the fuse block for clean and tight fuses's and if your careful and don't loose anything and can put it back together !!! a good cleaning of the kill switch assy may help alot too.

Katalica, I do appreciate your reminder of my post, but the problem is I don't understand wiredgeorge's diagram well enough. I'm leary of cutting into this harness without being absolutely sure, which is why I gave my bike info, hoping someone who has done their Suzuki can help me as opposed to wiredgeorge's kawasaki.

When you measure the voltage at the coil, is the wire connected or disconnected ? Is the reading different if its connected or disconnected ? With it connected you may be seeing the voltage drop at the coil.

Let us know. Now im curious.......

Well since Tmwnni and I just did this on GS's his is a 83 550e and mine is a 80 750E so here it goes

1. Get yourself a four prong relay online or local five prongs work as well... refered to as a fog light relay or horn relay.

2. locate your kill switch wire (this is for sending power to coil once the key is in the on position typical - Orange/White Stripe)

3. If your coils are like Tmwnni you actually have a '+' and '-' labeled on them with a flat head / spade connector sliding over the '+' terminal...in my case I just had a wire 'Orange/White strip' soddered onto my coil under some epoxy or something that I had to cut off. After finding those wires you need to cut them and join them together and run them to the 86 on the relay

4. To make new power wire for coils... make a cable that goes to the 87 terminal on the realy and split it off to the '+' where the orange/white wires were plugged in to each coil.

5. Make a ground for the relay connects to terminal 85. Frame ground or bolt on engine works great!

6. attach a 10 amp fuse in a blade fuse type holder to the starter silonoid side 'one that goes to battery...or you can run direct to your battery + terminal... your choice...just make sure to fuse it.

And that is all...

All this info is in this thread...http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=120748&highlight=voltage+loss+data&page=2 helps to get colored wire like others described in here makes it much easier to follow IMO

decent enough pictures and simple to follow in post #20 ... rest of it is real enlightening as well... took us like 8 hours reading to figure this out but once we did the 550 my 750 was done in like twenty minutes.

Have Fun!

...PS Tmwnni was the mastermind that finally figured it out and had to tell me but it was a team effort =)
