A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

We've been through a lot together.......

Four good wrecks (one that required a life-flight)...2 required major reconstruction (to the bike, not I). No matter how hard she burned in, or how much stuff got ripped off her frame, she never failed to fire back up. That motor never let me down. She's embarassed a few newer sportbikes too...caught 'em off guard and trounced 'em. She carried me from Fayetteville NC, to the Republic of Panama (gave those little two-strokes hell, there are no "big" bikes down there), to the island of Puerto Rico (great street racing, and the old iron is revered) and home again.
Late last year, she started knocking. Shut it off and debated what to do. Rebuild the 750? She's been good to me, but.....
I went and got an 1100. I've always wanted to do a 7/11. I have a '90 gixxer motor I was gonna put in, but didn't like the oil cooler. Woulda been fun..and not too hard...but I needed an 1100.
The motor's condition is unknown. It turns over freely...that's as much as he knows. He says the carbs are "probably" dirty (no $hit...that's a given) and it has been sitting for at least 3 years...maybe more. Odometer shows a little over 5000 miles....who knows??? Bike had drag bars on it, so some ricky-racer may have thrashed it. Probably more likely than not. I know I took a gamble with the motor....It's either going to fire up after fiddling with it for a few hours and run like a raped-ape...or it's going to grenade.
I am going to try and use the Dyna S, V&H pipe, Accel coils and pods off the 750 if I can (should be OK, right?) (maybe oil pump gears as well???)
I also have an Aluminum swingarm that's going on too.

SO...I am now taking donations of GS 1100 performance parts. Top-end oilers, jet kits, cams, rare go-fast carbs, turbo kits, big-bore pistons, racing cranks, nitrous...you get the message. Great tax write-off.

But seriously...anything in particular I should pay attention to before trying to fire it up when it gets here? Besides the standard carb/batt/fluids/plugs drill? How about a Kerosene flush?

I think I'm gonna try some gauges this time...I've had bad luck "misplacing" the mercury from my sticks. That can't be good for the environment.
What do most of you guys use?

The tail is a Moto-Carrera XR-750 replica I was going to put on my RD 400. It looked a little big on the RD....but it was just right for the GS.

I'll check into the Morgan Carbtune...I heard they were pricey....but with tools you get what you pay for.

Any body wanna make odds on wether this motor is going to be a runner :D ...or need a rebuild  ....

I'm trying to stay positive, but I've been through this before...

:) hey mark, did you lower your footrests after putting on the new tail and seat /...H.G.

No, I didn't lower the footrests....those are some aluminum stunt pegs off my kids BMX bike. I bolted them into one of the holes for the original mount. They sit back a little more than stock, but it gives me more room to move my feet around to shift and use the rear brake when I'm riding hard.

My motor is on the way! Hoooray

I'll tell ya'll how it looks when it gets here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. [-o<
