DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anyone have a detailed schematic or info on the internals of the starter button and run switch on the right side handle bars?
Last fall when I got this bike started the button and switch was a little intermittent on working at first then started acting better as I started the bike more. One of the things I have done as of recent is take the switches apart to clean everything up and when I put the starter button back together I realized I didnt take pics or take note to exactly how it came apart. Theres a spring and a copper(or looks copper) "hat" and after putting it all back together I wasnt sure the button felt right when depressing it to start. Well today I made it to the point of getting the carbs and air boxes along with the battery back in and went to bump the starter as it's been on my mind that I may have a problem there and low and behold theres nothing like I thought might be the case. I didnt investigate to thoroughly and will get back on it in the morning but I suspect my assembly of that switch/button. I havent had any luck finding pics or drawings myself so thought I might ask here.

Before I take the starter button back apart I'm going through things in the wiring downstream of the switch. In this pic the right loop is from the clutch safety switch and the left is in the harness. This is the way it was upon my purchase....these 2 would go to each other to use the safety switch in the clutch correct? The way it is now should work as well shouldnt it?

Grrrrrrr it's not letting me add a pic....
Both sets of wires looped to themselves are yellow with a green tracer if that helps

This is a picture of the 1981 GS750EX skill switch , but with modification for the anti- starter clutch kickback (blue jumper wire).
A far as I remember you need to take it apart use some chemical cleaner (e.g. DeOxit)and prep with dielectric grease.

Thank you for the feedback. Got it figured out, I had the spring and copper hat behind the plastic starter button in the wrong sequence. Works like a champ now... for electric connections I use ACF-50 and the stuff is amazing. I use it for keeping polished aluminum yet one of my bosses said he uses the stuff religiously on all the electronic connections in his Bush planes he owns so I started doing the same.
