DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey there folks,
Just about to start putting my 77 GS750 back together, and am concerned about my electrical system. It appears one of the POs did some modifications to the wiring harness and who knows what else. My intent is to return this harness back to its original condition, but with upgraded/modern components. I'm savvy enough to repair the wires in the harness. I also know how to read/follow the electrical diagram in my manual.
What I need help with, is finding the right modern/upgraded parts that I can use with this bike.

Which generator should I get (if any)?

Which R/R?

What else should I look into replacing? Headlight; which one?

How much rewiring will I be looking at? Are there upgraded parts out there that I can just bolt on and plug in?
Thanks for the help!

Also, I plan on running heated riding gear on this bike this coming fall/winter. Ive got 3 bikes and no car with no intention of buying one, so I gotta make do with what I have.

See the various links on electrical upgrades in my Signature.

Here are my recommendations:

If the bike is running: Do the "Quick test" and report the results and we will have an idea where you are starting from

If not then:
Read about GS Stator (in my signature) for new R/R options

The read GS Charging health for an over view of charging improvements for R/R connections and grounds.

Then read about the Solid State Power Box and see if you want to dive into that.

A Series R/R and the SSPB will put you light years ahead of where you are.

Changing out all of your signal lights for LED's will get about an extra 5 amps to use for other accessories.

Start there.
