A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I think my stator crashed...I got a good one in another my old 1979 GS750, but I don't know if it's compatible with my 81. Can anyone clear that up?

Thanks!

79 uses the 12 pole stator, 81 uses the 16 pole NOT interchangable. You would have to change the rotor also. I don't know if it would fit

Okay well let me spill my situation here...I've had some issues with the bike since shortly after getting it and I'd like some other takes on it.

First...since the get go, at WOT, she bogs. Only when I open her all the way. She'd run fine up to until about 20 miles...then she'd start to bog and misfire all around. If I stopped for a bit, or toned down my riding, she'd run fine. I thought this was a combination of fuel starvation (filter + rusty tank = not always the best flow) and poor jetting (155 mains, 1981 GS750 K&N pods and full Kerker with baffle installed).

Today riding to work I experienced the norm...WOT still bogged and after about 15~20 miles she started misfiring. However, this time she just died all together. When this happened my lights went quite dim...my trailtech was running on it's powered light even when I switched my bike's lights off manually. Once stopped, there was no cranking. Battery was pretty well spent. I think I may have spent the last few miles of my trip running on the battery alone.

I'm starting to think all of this is connected.

Is there a way to check my stator? It seems like I've seena site that had a walkthrough but I can't remember where.

Can the bike sustain without a battery? I'm not versed yet with this model's ignition system.

yeah figures there'd be a link to it on the FRONT PAGE...

Thank dale! That's what I was hunting!
