A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My bike needs a new petcock. It sounds like rebuilding is just a bad thing so I'm happy buying a new one. I called the local shop and sputtered at the quote of 150 and 2 weeks away. Can anyone give me advise where the best place to buy on is? I looked at Z1 great price but has anyone ever put on one those directly onto a 79 850 with no problems? thanks.

OEM from bikeBandit $76.86 USD, With the money conversion You might want to try rebuilding it. I have rebuilt mine but I am in SO Cal where the weather does not distroy bikes like back east in the snow. TAKE a very close look at the condition of the metal If it is badly coroded it may never work properly. available from Cirus Canada ? big ebay seller. I have bought from them before

Buy new and forget about it. Lynn is one of the "select few" that have had success rebuilding a petcock. Must be in the hands...:-k :p

+1.

Just get a new one and you're good for another 20 yrs. It performs a very important task. And knowing that it's working properly gives a huge peace of mind. Not to mention it's very close to some very important body parts !!:)

Buy a new one, don't bother rebuilding.
If it's the only part you need, make sure they ship US Postal if you can wait the delay, custom duty charges are included.
If shipped by UPS or other courrier, for shorter lead time, expect to get nail $50.00 custom duty charges (personal experience with a valve cover gasket:() payable at your door.
Last april, I ordered many parts from Cheapcycleparts.com. Now I can't find anything older than 1989 . I will call them to see what's going on.

I just rebuilt the the petcock on my 82 650. I assume they are a similar design. Once I had it apart and hosed it down with carb cleaner. After than Any really stubborn gunk was removed with lapping compound. After that I just reassembled it and it worked like a charm.

However I'm not sure in what state of disrepair yours might be in. But if your planning on getting a new one you might as well tear the old one apart and see how it works.
