    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1980 GS 750e oil cooler woes

Hello all,
Started digging into my GS after I noticed the bike had someoverheating problems and after tinkering around with things I want to replacemy old oil cooler and also the lines. The oil cooler is the original, and it works but after restoring thebike I think a newer one will add to the look, as for the lines one of them isleaking and I want to get some new SS oil cooler lines on their.
Does anyone know where to buy bolt on Lines or what sizelines are on these bikes and second does anyone sell a complete bolt on kit??
The OEM ones are discontinued
any info is appreciated.
 
You are mistaken. Your bike did not come from Suzuki with an oil cooler installed. There are no "OEM" oil coolers for a 1980 GS750.

You might want to post some photos of your bike and the cooler and lines. Most likely someone can ID what you have and provide some suggestions.
 
Probably either a Derale or Lockhart cooler. Take your fittings and lines to a local auto performance parts shop and have them put a set of lines together for you. If you prefer to do it yourself they can sell you the parts to build your own lines
 
You are 100% correct, the research I did leads me to believe the original owner put on a Derale oil cooler on it with some nice SS lines. IfI can get a new Oil cooler kit that just bolts on I will be more than happy to do it, or if I can just get the right lines with connectors ill be a happy camper too.

Oil coolers are NOT recommended for your bike nor the 81 and 82 models. These bikes have friction main bearings not roller bearings, thus requiring higher oil pressures to feed the bearing surface. An oil cooler could rob enough pressure from the system to cause some serious bearing damage. IMO lose the oil cooler, you don't need it. Just use a good high grade oil whether it's diesel or a brand of sync oil. I ride my bike in the Southwest desert heat and have had no problems.
