1980 gsx 250 air box - filter attachment / holder

air box.JPG

Does anyone know where i can get the gsx 250 air filter
attachment inside this airbox ? you can see it in this picture of anothers.

I am doing up a wreck and need some odd parts.
I have the air box but dont know how to put in the air filter ?

Look it up on cmsnl.com. The filter is about 10 euros and the hold down plastic part is 12. Don't know how much of the air box you have, but the diagram will show you all the parts and how they fit. The grate over the filter folds in half and comes out the top of the box. Try not to break it.

the issue with cmsl is that i cant find the same model !
indeed the normal uk 1980 gsx 250 is simply not there ? (as per pic)
this makes getting parts very difficult - not to say they are so damned expensive for delivery !

Also ....

I dont supose you know where i can get a original ish exhaust system from downpipes to silencers ?
or
at the very least a good 2 into 1 ?

the one on there is rotten and looks ridiculous anyway.

Pretend it's an '82. Do you think the air box is different? Not likely, as that would cost money and there wasn't a reason that I can see. If all you need is the foam, then just sub in some open cell foam about 3/8" thick. Cut it a hair large; if you can breathe freely through it there's no worries.

I have the airbox
I dont have the grid insert and have no idea how it goes or looks.
Foam air filter can be bought off ebay.

There is not one diagram on cmsl that is the same as the 1980 or whatever
for the gsx model type we are talking about.
the one in my pic. not one ! i have emailed them asking as to why.

all i am trying to do is find what the grid looks like , can i order it ?
I expect to have to make one ! or modify one. Thats ok.
I still barely know how it situates in the airbox, is fixed .......

A minor thing but as i cant find parts diagrams it makes it difficult.

This bike is my next winters project but having started it up last night
and found all the issues ill make it quickly mechanically sound and ride about on it
until the winter. Love these old twins. WAs my first bike on the road !

It's 30 years since I worked on one of these. I think the part number for the plastic grid is 13792-44100. To be certain, I'd ring a dealer. Try Fowlers in Bristol? They've helped me out before when I've not been sure what I needed.

Thanks for the info ! taken on board !
I am yet to ring a dealer (I dont usually get much help with these old bikes)

I note the mesh goes above the air filter - as per diagram i attach

Q) what holds the air filter in place ? the ones for sale on ebay are simply foam (i think)
So how can it stay in place ?

q) i attach the right diagram for my bike.
Is then item 2 (the filter ), stiff ? hence not a floppy piece of foam ?

From your photo, you are missing the plastic shelf which sits in airboax. The foam filter element sits on this and is held in place by the white plastic grid in your photo. I'm sure I've got a spare and a motad 2-1 exhaust. I'll have a rummage over the weekend. The only problem is I'm in Kent, so postage on the motad may be a bit much

I thank you so much for this !
A small detail but i now understand what i am missing ! So please please do have a look and report !!!!!

I would be interested in parts you have ! very interested and distance will not be an issue.
If you had a seat ....... that would be soooo good too.

Jules

Just for info this is the exhaust i have , i so wish i had a 2 into 2 , not this one.
It is not only rotten but it looks wrong I think .......

I might have to learn to weld and bend the rear up a bit.

Can you post a picture of the shelf as it is not a part listed on cmsnl. The grid is listed as Holder No.2 so it would suggest there is a holder no.1

Hi sorry not posted for a while as having massive issues getting my gsx going.

Simply bombs after 5k revs. otherwise perfect.IMAG0662.jpg

I attach a photo of the internals.
Mine has never been right and i had to order the mesh you see inside.
Now there should be mesh inside and on the top of the foam filter.
I am going to order another mesh and just use two of the ones you can order !
the one in the pic is the one you can order.

I found a page in my gs250t owners manual which shows two frames that the element fits into, but this frame does not appear on any of the parts lists on cmsnl web site...

I agree totally !
All i know and with what you have found, if you order one of these grills (i think i ordered
the only one available which i think is the top one) it will do for the top and bottom !

I have the one i ordered simply holding up a peice of foam i cut to size. it worked fine !
