DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thanks for the great welcome guys. I originally posted this in the wrong place, here's my dilemma.

1982 gs1000 kat, ran good for a good friend (bike dealer and mech too), then stored for a year. He said it ran good when he got it, and his word is good, so i dont think it's the valves.

4,000 miles, good plugs, wires. Boots in brand new condition. Bike runs good on choke, then rough idles (popping, backfire, rpm variance). I took the carbs in and he 'cooked em clean', with a little varnish coming out.

Got pods for intake, they were already on and new.

Love this bike, gonna post pics soon.

When you friend "cooked" the carbs he didnt happen to note what jets are in there did he? Is the popping through the exhaust or the pods??

Idling problem

Idling problem

Popping is through the exhaust only, with the idling going high and low for no apparent reason.

checked vac

Ok, checked for a vac using carb cleaner for a response around the intake & boots, nothing, as for the carb settings, nothing has been touched. It ran fine with the seller(he's a good friend), but now its not. It was stored for a year though.

This may be something, I didn't try to start it until after I sent the tank in for painting(getting it back today), so when I ran it I just put on a much longer fuel line and used a massive plastic syringe to drip in fuel as needed. It ran bad as it does now, but would idle up as I put in gas. So to keep a steady stream I attached a 2 gal. tractor gas tank, same line size and all. It ran alot better but I still have rough idling and exhaust popping.

Since I got it 2 weeks ago, I've gone through every square inch of the bike, cleaning and never messing with anything mechanical or carboration.

I'm just stumped. Thank you for the feedback Nessism
