A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey folks,

I just picked up my second GS yesterday...
its an '82 GS650g. Its running, but its been sitting for a while...so I'm doing the usual carb cleaning and gasket replacing for this type of situation.

Now on to my question:
The stock air filter on this particular bike disintegrated when I touched it (like cotton candy). I went looking for a K&N, but my dealer told me K&N doesn't make an air filter for this particular model (they have them for other gs650's from this year, but none for the g model).

Does anyone know of an aftermarket filter for this bike?
I'd prefer to keep the stock air box and not use pods.

Thanks,
-gammer

I've read in other threads that UNI makes sheets of foam you can use to make your own filter. IIRC, you can use a hot glue gun to bond the pieces together. An auto parts store or small engine repair shop (lawnmowers, etc.) should be able to hook you up.

That is, if one of the several very helpful on-line retailers can't help you. My 850 has a UNI filter in it, so maybe they make one for yours too.

Doesn't make sense to build your own filter, or get an Uni, when you can just get a stock filter for $25 and be done with it.

Actually, I just checked Bike Bandit and they have stock air filters avail.

I will check with my local Canadian Suzuki dealer to see what they can do.

Yep, local dealer has stock filters and they are in stock....hey thats a pun! :-s

I almost feel silly for even starting this thread...almost.

Uni makes a foam replacement filter specifically for 650g and gl model. Stock unit is foam, have one of both, no opinion as to which is better. Uni is a little less money. Kinda fun installing clips on airbox especially with oily hands.;-)
