A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I would like to drain the old oil and gas out of this, but I don't know how. Also, the cap on the oil tank is unbelievably stuck. I cannot get it to move. I've tried spraying a few lubricants on it to get it to go, and a few other things to get it to go, but it is absolutely stuck.

Can anyone assist me with either of these problems?

The fuel tank should let you drain the old gas out using the prime setting on your petcock attached to a hose into a container. Is the petcock not working?

As far as the oil cap, are you talking about the bolt below or the fill cap on top?

The fill cap on top.

I actually had no idea what that thing was. I figured it was as simple as that. I saw res(which I assume is reserve) and on, which of course means it's open.

Should I take the gas cap off while draining the tank?

To get the oil dipstick off use a pair of pliers for a better grip and some torque.

For the gas, I like to use a vacuum pump (the type with the bulb you squeeze..Canadain Tire) as it can get right into the corners and will suck up any rust or gunk. I will be easiest if you take the tank off to do this.

Is the tank rusty? If so you might want to clean it and seal it. Lots of information on this so do a search. Rust particles can clog up the petcock filter so its not a bad idea to remove and clean the petcock and screen while you are at it.

If the bike is fitted with an inline gas filter you might want to change that too. Actually you don't need one if the petcock screen is ok and you may even find that the bike will run better without an in line filter.

Let us know when you get it fired up.

cheers,
Spyug

It doesn't matter but yea it couldn't hurt.

Have you tried maybe using a vise grip on the top of it to give extra torque?

Yea, what Spyug said.

Got it off with a heat gun and some vice grips, actually.

Thanks a lot, guys. I actually have no idea if the tank is rusty, because I don't have a key for it at the moment, so I can't get the cap off.
