    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

530 chain conversion.

I put on 530 sprockets and chain and the chain the dealer sold me was to short, has any one converted their bikes from a 630 to a 530 if so what length of chain ( number of links) was used. The dealer sold me a 102 link chain; the chain is short by at least 7 links just to connect the master link not leaving any room for adjustment. The dealer is now recommending 110 links. Any suggestions.

The distance pin centerline to pin centerline on 630 chain is 3/4". The distance pin centerline to pin centerline for 530 chain is 5/8". If you originally had 102 links of 630 chain, it would be 76.5 inches long. The same 76.5 inch length in 530 chain would require 76.5/.625 or 122.4 links.

I would not put a 530 chain on a bike with such power as an 1100. You would be wise to get a D.I.D. o- ring 630 chain and switch back to the original sprockets.
 
Newer bikes with twice the power use 530 chains...
630 chains were all there was to handle the power years ago..but the world moves on! When 630s are hard to get or too expensive I may chnage
 
Well said Saaz. If a 530s good enough for the Hayabusa and GSX1400 then its OK for us GSers. The ultimate tensile strength of the 630 might be slightly more, but a 530 is still way stronger than it needs to be. The wear resistance index of a 530 chain is higher than a 630.
When I fitted a GSXR1100 wheel to my special, the sensible thing to do was to convert to 530. I went from 98 links (my swingarm is 1" longer than stock) to 114 links. I bought a 120 link chain from a specialist and cut off the excess links. The difference from Earlfors numbers is probably due to the fact that, for a given number of teeth, 530 sprockets have a smaller diameter. Its not just a question of matching the chain length. My sprockets are 15 teeth and 43 teeth, more than standard and yet the diameter is less then my old 630 ones.
You get a much better choice of chain types and sprockets in 530 size as well. :)

WELL I BELIVE THAT THOSE GUYS THEY HIRE AT THE DEALERSHIP IS JUST KIDS OFF THE STREET, KINDA LIKE GOING TO AUTOCRAP I MEAN ZONE 8O
