A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys... I had to fall off the boards for a bit shortly after joining for some personal reasons... but I am now back in the game. Unfortunately I start the game up with issues...

So I started my 850 the other day and it started up easily. However it now has white smoke coming from the pipe at idle. In the garage in poor light it looks like it has a blueish tint, but in the sunlight it just looks white. I ran it for about 15 minutes to see if it would clear itself, but it didn't. When I rev it it smokes as well.

I pulled the plugs to check them and they are black and had a bit of oil on them. So I changed those out just to see what it would do and it definitely runs better, but still smokes. Before I dropped off it was smoking only when I would downshift and decel... not it smokes all the time..

Any ideas on what could cause this all of a sudden?

Fuel in the crankcase caused by a defective petcock perhaps? :-k

All of a sudden, it isn't rings wearing out. They wear over a hundred thousand miles or so, not from being dropped.

I'd go with the fuel in the oil suggestion, it's easy to check.

And the italian Tune up is always a good idea.

Checking for fuel in the oil is a damn good idea if you suspect it,and that would be more in line with the sudden nature. If the oil isn't the problem, then a compression test is in order. Once as it sits then again with a little oil placed in the cylinder's to see how much difference it makes.

Yea bike was ridden pretty regularly by the guy I got it from... I had ridden it quite a bit and so it has only been sitting for around a month and a half since I parked it. I was smoking on decal and downshift before... but not all the time like it is now. Its not a ton of smoke either... just enough to see it and tell something is off...
