'79 Red Euro GS1000S

I picked this bike up yesterday after a successful Ebay bid. Interesting thing is that the title says it is a 1980. It needs some cosmetic work but is very stock. This solves a problem for me. I have blue '79 that has some mods. I was debating taking it back to stock. How I can have a red one that is stock and mod out the blue one.

This one will get an NOS instrument cluster I picked up from the U.K. a while back. Interestingly enough, the clock in the bike now works and it also has the chrome trim piece for the tail cowling, so I saved myself about $400 based upon current Ebay prices.

I have a set of Lesters I'm polishing and a Guiliari seat. Both bikes will need paint. Here is the blue one as of today.

Fortunately, I spent the winter doing a restoration on a '73 RD350. I learned a lot about body work and painting, so I think a have a reasonable shot at a good outcome on the GS's. It is not a GS, but hopefully on one will mind a Yamaha making a cameo appearance.

I'm not as fast or as good at the resto stuff as a lot of you guys, but I'll keep after it.

Gorgeous bikes! Both the Suzuki's and the yammie look awesome. Is the paint on either of the two cooleys original paint or are they both resprays?

Oh, I like Yammies just fine, especially smaller ones, and especially smokers....next project will likely be one.

The red one is original paint, but I don't think I'll be able to save it. The tank is rusted at the bottom and the back near the seat. Both plastic side covers have cracks and the fairing has some rash. I got a paint match from the auto parts store and bought the paint (ouch). I may try to touch up and see what happens, but I don't like the odds.

The blue one is a respray.

Thanks for the comments on the RD. It turned out pretty well. This was my first time doing 2 part paint, and I was pleased with the results.

Actually, he gave me the blue "S" about 4 years ago, which got me started on this whole bike resto phase of my life. He inherited it from my uncle and it was just sitting, so he gave it to me.

His first bike was an RD350, so this has some sentimental value for him. An RD for a Cooley seems like a trade I'd make on most days.

As usual, Ness is right. I don't honestly know that it came from Europe, but the paint is original and it has the neat little registration tag from England that suggests to me that it is the real deal.
