    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'83 GS750T - Starting Issue - Post Carb Clean

I'm having starting problems with my 1983 GS750T that have developed after doing a full carb clean. Once started, it runs great.

Problem:

Does not start without 'nurturing'. I crank it with full choke and 3/4 of the plugs remain bone dry.

I can coax her to start by putting a few drops of fuel in the cylinders and then starting with full choke.

Once she gets going, she runs just fine. Idles smoothly. Runs well on the road. No issues.

Other then starting.

Prelude:

This issue has arisen immediately after doing a complete carb clean (awesome guide! Thanks!). Upon reassembly, the starting issue began.

Solution:

Thoughts? Comments? Personal attacks?

sounds like you have either got blocked pilot passages still or you have not set your air/fuel mixture screws correctly. what have you set them too?
 
The "choke" system is fed by little hole in bottom of fuel bowl and then a small tube that runs up into carb throat. After cleaning, did you poke and blow these out? I use spray gumout- wear glasses!
 
When is the last time the valve clearances were checked?

True, they should not be changed by cleaning the carbs, but cold starting problems are aggravated by tight valves.

I concur with Tom on blowing out your choke tubes- I use an old guitar string (G) as well and Steve is spot on with the valves- A little Marvel Mystery oil will help lube everything up in that carb added to the gas and keep you running awesome. We can't have a "T" with starting trouble- they love to run!!!!!!

Basscliff: your site is rather steeped in awesome!

After much reading I now know much more about how Carbs work, and have an idea how to move forward.

I pulled the carbs back off and am recleaning them; this time paying more attention to the tine passage ways in the pilot and starter circuit.

One error on my first attempt is that I only soaked the parts for about 20 min each rather that a good 12-24 hrs.

My current working theory is that the short soak was enough to loosen deposits in the starter circuit without fully dissolving them. That would explain why she's having trouble getting fuel to start.

Thanks again for the help, and I'll let you know how it turns out.
 
Well I am up and running now!

I pulled the carb and soaked each one for 24 hrs. Took extra time to clean out all the tiny holes with the 'special tool' and cleaned it them out with compressed air.

Reassembled and immediately started!

Huzzah!

Now, thanks to one Mr. BassCliff, I now have a whole list of things to work through :)
