A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

is this an ignition bypass so the clutch is supposed to be pulled in to start?

my guess would be: BINGO

I think mine is disconnected too FWIW as I have wires but dont need to have the clutch in, which my front tire can attest to as it hit the garage door...

On my '86, the clutch lever does have to be pulled in to start. I'd assume those would be the wired for the switch.

Checking the wiring diagram, the starter interlock switch does have two wires, both yellow with a green stripe, which appear to be the ones in your photo.

They are frequently disconnected, since with 20-year-old wiring harnesses, each 0.3 V can add up quickly.

That's a clever place to hold spare parts for the front brake light switch.
It also doubles as a clutch switch so you need to have three hands for starting, but that's a pretty stupid idea.
Most have been disconnected long ago.

OK, tkent beat me to it ... again. :o

Yep, it's a useless 'safety' interlock that doubles as a spare parts bin for your brake switch that will fail sooner or later. :D

When the switch is disconnected (as yours is) the other ends of those wires need to be connected together. If you can start your bike, it's already been done.

.

so I can just bolt it in to the brake lever on the other side to get my brake lights working again?

OUTSTANDING!!!:dancing:
