    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello All!!

I am new to this forum, but have been lurking on here for quite awhile. My 1979 GS 1000 is happily buring up the streets, but it needs a few upgrades.

I have recently acquired a 1996 GSXR 750 for parts - VERY CHEAPLY! I have a few questions:

1. What is required to fit this swingarm onto the 1979 chassis? I want to retain the dual shock setup, so the mono will not pose any issues, just the fitment into the mount area.

2. Can the stock dual exhaust be retained? I have a V&H 4-1 on right now, but like the look of dual pipes. Seems to finish off the bike better IMHO.

3. Will the front forks / assembly fit into the stock steering stem? I have read other posts on here regarding Honda triple trees, but was looking to do this for as little invested as possible. I am not too worried about ground clearance issues, since this will be a boulevard power cruiser type bike only. Speedo is also not a concern.

Yes, I am sure that someone has done these mods before, but I did not get the results I am looking for while doing a search.

Check Bikebandit's website for parts ID as far as steering head bearings go. As for the swingarm, the only way you're going to know is to pull down the stock unit, shove the gixxer in there and see what you've got. You might do better with an 1100E swingarm but I can't say for sure.

You will have to remove some material from the inside of the frame at the pivot, on each side, to get the swingarm between the frame rails.
You can retain the dual shock set up, but it will require careful measurements for shock mount placement.

This is going to require mounting up the swingarm and simply seeing what is going to work.

Yes, they will fit. You may have to put in a different bearing set, but they will fit.
For the year forks you plan to use, I recommend the use of the Honda triples. You will appreciate the clearance. No one is twisting your arm though, mount the GSXR triples up there and see what you end up with. There may be enough clearance for your liking. My GT750 did not require the Honda triple, but I will most likely add this in the future.

According to www.aplha-sports.com it will not fit right in. The upper neck bearing in your bike shows as a 25mm x 47mm x 15mm and the lower is a 30mm x 55mm x 17mm. The 1996 GSXR 750 is 30mm x 55mm x17mm on the upper and lower according to the site.

I have done a 82 Katana with a 1994 GSXR 750 invered from end. It bolts right in. So you can do that way or call www.allballsracing.com and tell them what you are trying to do. They will be able to tell you what you can use. They deal with he conversions such as the one your doing. They can sell you the bearing youll need for the top.

I called them when I did my 1000S Cooley Replica with a 2001 GSXR 600 front end. I had to get a bearing that they offered and open up the bore a little bit. There wasnt an exact bearing to make that combination fit. So I had to improvise.
