    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What's the sizing on an 82 GS650G, and are there any good aftermarket bars out there? I'd like something a little more up and back.
 
The handlebars are 7/8" diameter as are all Japanese bikes.

Yes, all these bikes do use 7/8" bars. For most, finding bars tends to be hit and miss, trial by fire, whatever you want to call it, but here are a few pointers: most bars are measured at three points, height, width, and pull-back. It may be beneficial for you to know what your current bars are for a baseline. Also, make sure that you know and look for bars that have an appropriate amount of space for your grips and controls, I've made that mistake once and ended up with a useless pair of bars gathering dust in my garage. Now, if you really want to do the most to get it right the first time, grab a partner and a measuring tape, then head for your bike. You are sitting there, in a position that you deem appropriate, hands up where you want them, then have you partner take down all the necessary numbers. And from there, you can begin your search. One other thing to take note of is that bars can come in various "sweeps", or the angle at which the bars will put your hands, this can be another important piece of info as for many, it affects how well their wrists and forearms do over long periods in the saddle. Well, there's the long of it...lol...hope it helps!
 
I too was wondering about aftermarket bars... as my 82 GS650E bars are bent.

I understand the sizing piece... but was wondering if someone could recommend a good aftermark brand (in case I am not able to locate used).

Unless you are looking for showroom condition or drag strip tolerances brand really doesn't matter. Just figure out what look/feel you want and find a bar that has it. There are so many good style choices from OEM, clubman, drag, superbike, ape hangers, and everything in between.
 
I also picked up a set of bikemaster eurobars for my 1100g. I too am quite pleased

Bikemaster Euro. The little I've been able to ride I like the bend and width. Fill it with #9 lead shot for the best vibration damping available. I know it's heavy, but so are GSs.
