    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a few questions I'm hoping you all can help me answer regarding my 1981 gs 250T. I'm planning on doing it up cafe style, but first I need to address a few other issues.

1. The carbs are in need of a rebuild, and I have found many posts on the subject regarding the inline four models, but nothing specific to the 250. I have looked at all the websites selling kits, but again most are for the 4 cylinder GS's. Does anyone know of a good rebuild kit for the 250? Or am I stuck buying bits and parts one by one from the dealer?

2. My exhaust has seen better days. The headers are starting to rust through, I can repair them, but I was wondering about new exhaust from the header pipes back? Any ideas or opinions?

3. Rear shocks? This will not be a track bike, and I have found new replacement shocks from old bike barn for $129 a pair. Are these units decent, or should I pony up for a set from progressive?

That should do it for now. I'm waiting on a manual I got on ebay to arrive so I can start to sort out the chopped up wiring harness.

While i cant give you much advice on what you're asking...i can tell you most here would caution you about buying from OldbikeBarn.com. Check out the Deadbeat section for more info on them, but what ive read has detered me from buying from them.

Actually that is a great comment! Thanks for the heads up. I'll check out the deadbeat section.
 
BTW...if you're not looking for Racing function shocks..and dont want to spend a butt load of money...check out MDI shocks, usually you can find them new on ebay for about 80 bucks a pair....
 
Cool, that is what I am looking for. The shocks on the bike now are so clapped out that they sag considerably, even though I weigh only 155. I'll check for those on ebay. Thanks.
 
DONT THRASH those 250 engines, my friend in UK has had 8 of those 250's (actualy it's known as a Suzuki gsx 250)
Everyone one of them, the cranks have blown, and one he had (which I witnessed) blew the crank and threw the conrod through the front of the engine which hit the front tire!
Try put a 400 motor in it, as they are a little bit stronger.

That's cool. I don't plan on thrashing this old girl. I have a couple of FZR 400 track bikes for that, and a few other street bikes also up to that task. This will be mostly for the fun of it. Both building the bike and riding it.
