If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys and girls,
I could do with a little help.after a run out yesterday I stopped at a friends house only to come out to a non starting bike as the battery(which is new)was flat, got it jump started to get the 2 miles home and after a quick check on the alternator wires I discovered a broken feed wire to the lighting circuit and that at 2,500 revs I was getting between 8.95 and 10 volts between the 3 wires=toasted alternator:(.Now after all that what I want to know is this:- can I take the windings from a GS10000 and put them into a GSX1100(GS1100 EX)???.I bought the windings as a pattern part about 3 months before I swapped the 1000 engine for the 1100 so it had very little work. Thanks in advance.Johnny

wow.........you have a GS10000???? i bet that goes like hell, lol.

i think the GS and the GS are the same but not 100%, check the part numbers to be sure

EDIT, just compared part numbers. they are different so i guess it wont fit

Johnny, I don't know if the GS1100EX part will replace the GS1000E stator. I do know a GS1000EC stator will work in place of the one in a GS1100GKD.

Ricks motorsport electrics (Ricks) calls for the same part number (21-303) between the GS1000EX and the GS1100GKD so physically they should be the same. What I do know is if your bike still uses a separate rectifier and regulator, you will need to modify the electrical connectors at the end of the wires.

You can't go by that on this application. The wire connectors for the R/R are different because of the separate reg and rectifier used on the 1000EC (EN)

yeah, agemax it would-if the damn battery didn't flatten itself!:D,I'd just had a 22 hour day, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it hehe. The oil is draining(it needed changed anyway) and I'll give it a go both cases are the same so we'll see.Rusty, I fitted a one piece reg/rec when I re wired the bike 10 years ago so it's just a matter of getting the 3 wires connected with bullet connectors and I'll give it a test.Johnny

Just so you know, you don't have to drain the oil to change the stator. :-k

Yeah, you said it needed to be changed anyway, but if you put a 2x4 under the left leg of the centerstand, you only get a couple of drops that fall when you pull the cover.

The bike is still plenty stable to work on, so no worries there. :D

.

thanks!

thanks!

Cheers Steve for the tip,the bike has an aftermarket swing arm that the PO fitted so no center stand!,I was going to take the tank off and lie the bike on it's side(useful for changing the clutch assembly when you've just filled the engine and forgot to swap out the worn and rattling clutch basket-have a guess.Just about to get the soldering iron warmed up I''l post later on how it went.Thank you to everyone who replied so far:D.Johnny

you can remove the clutch cover as well without draining the oil, just with the bike on the sidestand.

I like your little XS touch on the sidecover ;)

Looks like your just asking for a demonstration of murphy's law
So far, Mr. Murphy has been on vacation each of the several times I have done this.

Don't criticizeit until you try it. It really is surprisingly stable. :p

Nah - he's good to go. Took off the right rear turn signal to balance it out..;)
Actually, that was right after we got the bike, and had not yet attached the missing signal. :-\\\

That was courtesy of the previous owner. Never saw the need to change it, we sold the bike a couple of weeks ago with it still in place. :D

ok,now what?

ok,now what?

I got the new stator(whih was a new pattern part) in today and I read the stator papers(very informative they were too:D) BUT at 4,000rpm I was only getting 50.1 volts A.C. instead of the 60 volts the papers said I should have. Also with the lights on the voltage dropped from 14.8 to 12.8 at 4,000 rpm and 12.6 instead of 13.5 at the 1200 rpm idle.So do I ride with the lights on or not?????-help please!.Johnny

Did you compare the two stators while you had them out?
Did they both have the same number of poles?
Did you measure the resistance of each winding and also between them and earth? What were the results.
Is each leg wired directly to the Reg/Rectifier?

Have you checked for voltage drops on both the positive side (from R/R to ignition switch and back to the fuse panel) and across the negative cable as well?

50 v.a.c. output is low.

This sounds very similar to someone else that was posting recently. Voltages were fine till the lights went on.

This one.

Not sure if he figured it out but the problems was apparently persisting even after he had changed several grounds and connections. This just reinforces to me that even after you change out all the connections you should always retest according to Revised Stator Pages Phase A (to measure the voltage drops at full load/5K RPM) because you might have not gotten all of the offending connections.
