DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ok for those who havent been following along lol

80 gs850gt

new accel coils & relay mod
valve clearances good
new intake boots & o-rings
airbox sealed
carbs dipped & synced
tried the color tune to no avale did the rpm method to get the mix

well its been ok lately so i decided to take the bike to work 20 mile trip its been good so why not. well warmed up good for about 20mins since it was in the upper 20's. got out of the driveway and the rpm's dropped after a block. i have the idle set at about 1200 it went down to about 800-1000ish when i pulled the clutch in at a stop sign or red light. a few times while on the highway when i pulled in the clutch at a light it stalled out about 5 TIMES! well on the return trip it only stalled one time but sometimes at a light the rpm's jumped to almost 3000:eek: then after about 15mins of that the rpm's drop down again:confused:. when i finally got it home the headers on 1&2 were warm and 3&4 you can cook dinner on. the plugs on 1&2 looked a wetish brown (rich?) and 3&4 looked light tan-whiteish (lean?). no spots or heavy wear on the electrodes. there was a total lack of power in 3rd+. on straight highway i was in 4th throttle all the way out and not going above 5000 and sounded hollow like not fireing on all 4. in 1st sounded ok till about 6000. 2nd it started to sound more hollow with intermittent power. but able to climb a hill no problem cant do it in 4th or 5th. i was able to climb a hill in 5th last week....

anyway i leaned out 1&2 and crossing my fingers. any other ideas are welcomed :D

Sorry but you are going to have to clean those carbs again.

I ran into a similar situation with freshly cleaned carbs on my Katana that had sat unused (but on the bike and filled with fuel) for about 4 months. The bike was hard to start, the idle went all over the place and 2 cylinders weren't firing properly. A fresh strip, dip and rebuild sorted it.

Good luck with it.
Cheers,
spyug

thats where its weird it dident sit for longer than a week at a time, in between getting parts, and when i painted it. last week it ran good for 20 miles no problem climbing hills in 4th or 5th grabbing some fun twisties

One: have you checked your tank? Rust/dirt will make it's way past the screen. Tiny but enough will clog things up.
Two: did you replace the air filter and or weather stripping in the air box? Broken down foam filters or sealer strip will get into your carbs

Three: you're positive the ignition timing is correct? What ohm coils did you purchase? Checked to see that your ignitor isn't bad?

1 - tank is clean and im dipping the carbs. why not dosent take long:| and certainly wont hurt anything

2 - air filter is new oiled LIGHTLY, box is resealed :D

3 - 3ohm rated accel super coils, igniter new/used from matchless i think thats who i got them from. i have a couple from him so i may switch it out just to be on the safe side. i have yet to recheck the timing as of late. may just switch out to a dyna-s in the near future just to stop that sort of headache

When you clenaed the carbs did you just use new boot 0-rings or did you replace all the tiny o-rings inside the carb bodies.?

you can at least draina bowl and check for any crud coming out that may be blocking things up.

dipping them for about 8hrs each they were pretty clean from the last time. if one still looks gummy or dull, naturally it will soak for longer. blowing out and picking at all the cavity's and crevices.

i only change the intake boot rings when i remove the boots. like if they are hard, cracking or sat for a long time. i took apart the carbs so all the fuel connectors & T's, needle valve seat, float bowl plugs, fuel screw. i replace all the o-rings and start with fresh rubber to maintain good seals
