A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

83 gs1100 on top of valve cover have some kind of breather tube,or whatever its called with little breather filter? anyway its leaks oil when at high rpm over 5000 Is it from blow by or what??It does smoke a bit out of exhaust, have not ran compression test, plugs look good somehow..

Is that tube just open to the air?
There should be a connection to the airbox, the smoke and any oil gets sucked into the engine to burn.

That's your crankcase breather, if it's not plugged into your airbox, that makes another vacuum leak as well.

No air box ,pods or filter on each carb. I knew p.o. and he had it that way for a long time with no problem But now I am thought that pressure in motor was blowing oil out of hose?

The hose should tilt up from the engine with a filter on the end-tyed to the frame. To allow the oil in the hose to drain back into the engine. Their should be some screens in the breather cover too. If missing will cause excessive oil blowby

Sucker?

Sucker?

It would suck in just as much air whether it's in or out. And, it's not part of the gas/air mixture.

The gasket on mine has only small holes to allow ventilation. maybe your gasket is open all the way and it's allowing too much oil up there. Also you could try putting steel wool (stainless) in side to prevent oil from getting out but still allowing venting.

Thanks for all feedback,I took the little cover on top of vavle cover off and nothing in there so I might try steel wool trick. The hose was hanging down a bit so going to tie up better,AND the valve cover might be leaking to.Also would one of those fitting that I have seen on some bikes that go in oil fill cap with hose and breather help until top end rebuild since it is smoking out of exhaust.

NO, do not try running it into the oil filler cap!
That hose is a vent for the crankcase. It is "steaming" because of combustion pressure /gases "blowing-by" the piston rings and trying to pressurize the crank-case.
If you some how route the hose back into the engine the pressure will find another way out.
Most engines have a bit of a vapour separator to try and separate the liquid droplets from the gases before dumping the vapours into the airbox to be burned off in the engine. (emissions)
Just route the hose somewhere that it won't make a mess, be careful not to overfill your crankcase , don't rev the SH!T out of your engine and live with it.

I have an old whip cream container with a hole in the side and inside is a nice shiny K&N breather filter. It's zip-tied where the air box used to be.
