A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have these Uni Pods on my carbs instead of the factory airbox. Somebody told me I should be careful not to get caught in the rain because they will get wet from sucking water and possibly flood my engine over time. Is this true?

Justin

did it effect then performance? Will it still rev over 5000 rpm? did you re-jet?

The person I bought the bike off of doesnt know if the person he got it from re-jetted. It still revs, kinda, over 5K. I would say as much as a bike its age would. I'd love to make my GS more versatile, yet powerful. I guess I am going to put the airbox back in so when I happen to get caught in the rain, I don't really have to worry.

How about you guys, performance, or versatility?

Justin.

Hi

I go for versatility.
I have more than 60 Newton-Meter between 2000-8000 RPM.
and more than 75 Newton-Meter between 3000-7000 RPM.
With a peak at 4000 RPM. 86 Newton-Meter

It pulls like a tractor.

My 1981 gs850 ran up to 5000, I put the stock air box on and now I get 7000 easy. Unless it was re-jetted for the pods , it will run better too.

If the bike was rejetted for the pods and I throw the airbox back in it, Is that going to be a problem or will I still get better performance than having the original jets?

Justin

The easiest way to check that is to see what jetting was fitted as OEM and compare these figures to what the carbs have in now. Normally fitting what you have as mods requires a rejet to prevent any leans spots in the throttle range since air is flowing into the engine easier, whether its jets, needles, emulsion tubes, etc.
Even a slightly raised float level has its benefits too, so look carefully as a tad too rich is just as bad as a tad too lean.

Depending on if your bike has CV's or not you will be able to tell if a jet kit has been intalled if the needles have more than one slot in them. With a jet kit you should have 5 or more slots.
