Well, I've had it, waiting for parts from 'RepairManual.com'! I have been down now for 17-18 days! I can't wait much longer, if I can possibly help it. Soooo, is there something I can do to get myself, back on the road again? As I've mentioned a while back, I had a small fire around the air box, when it caught fire, due to an overflowing float bowl & bad petcock! It burned for some time! I have replaced the cock, all hoses, replaced the box & rubber sleeves from the carbs to the box! Actually, the ones I got w/another box, are kind'a hard! But I plan on using some silicone spray on them when I re-install the box, so they'll slip on the carbs right. I noticed that the clamps were all the way screwed in as tight as they could possibly be, & could go more, but ran outt'a screw, so I can't get them as tight as I would like. I need to come up w/a way to maybe put something around them, & then put the clamps over that, so as to be able to screw them down a 'lil harder, around the carbs! I plan to put some sealer on around them too, at the air box, to stop any leakage there. Because they are pretty hard! And I am still going to take the bottom float bowl off @#4 carb, to check for any dirt that may have added to the problem of over filling, besides the petcock. It overfilled now & again. I had a clear hose on the bottom of the float bowl, to catch the gas when it overfilled- when it burned! I didn't notice it had came off!! Other than a few small holes & black burnt balls of burned melted oil that was on the element? I could re-oil it & maybe hopefully patch it w/something or whatever anybody can suggest, so I can ride my bike?? I do have one on order, along w/a lot of other stuff for it. But they will not send my order until they have everything filled from back order, so no telling how long it'll be before they get it all out! I have, new end pieces too, for the end covers on the box! I got one, end rubber gasket with the used air box & can make the other out of something, till the new one comes in. But has anybody, any ideas of how & what if anything, I can do to get on the road, till my stuff gets here on back order? This is pretty long, I hope you can make out what I'm saying. Any help will be welcome!! Thank you guys!Ron....

First, if your carbs are "overfilling" then the problem is in the carbs, not the petcock.

Your floats/needles are not dong the job they are supposed to do.

That said, some carbs leak when the bike is on the side-stand, because the floats stick. Check for that, too.

As far as the filter itself is concerned, if you are truly desperate, visit a carpet store, and get a small piece of basic 3/8 inch urethane foam underlay.

Be sure whatever you find permits air flow.

Cut and fit it to your filter holder, and ride on. :)

Cannot recommend it for long-term use, but it works. I ran with that for several months.

Hay Ron Martin; thanks for the idea! A carpet store, huh? I never would have thought of that! And so easy too! Boy- oh- boy, here I come! Being it's Sunday, It may not be to awfully easy to locate one. But now, at least I do know how I can pass the long wait for the parts to get here. HA! I am going out now to check my float level w/the carbs remaining on the bike! As I still haven't tried to make that vacuum sync adjuster yet. I still have to run some acetone in the tank to get it cleaned out too today! So I've got a lot to do today. And thanks a lot for the tip about the carpet store! Very good idea! Anything else would be welcome too.. Thanks... Ron...

One more quickie! I forgot to ask ya if I am suppose to oil the new stuff I get from the carpet company? With regular motor oil? Is that what you did? I'd need to know that before I even tried to start it up. So please let me know. I'm on my way out to see if i can find some now, but will be back in a minute, as I won't have to go far to see if I can find one of 'em open or not! Thanks!
