hey everyone, i recently came up on a 1980 suzuki gs 750 for $100 that was chopped into a hardtail and never really got put back together, but i know it ran perfect before that so everything on it should be good still. So i got it all rewired and put back together but my question is this... there is no way any kind of airbox will fit in there but i got 4 pod filters and they seem to fit alright so its pretty much my only option. Ive heard of dynajet kits that seem to work wonders but they're in the $130.00 price range and the guy at the motorcycle shop said you can buy new jets and all that for about $2.00 each. So basically, is there any ups and downs to getting the kit vs just getting bigger jets and dropping em in? im pretty new to carb work but the guy said its really easy to put bigger jets in and shim the needles and all that.

also another question: the zuke has the vaccum operated petcock and the guy who i bought it from said im gonna run into problems but other people have said ill be fine once i get it jetted right. any ideas? the carbs i have have the main fuel line, the skinny line that runs from the carbs to the petcock, and two vents on the sides so i dont even see where an airbox would make a difference, im hoping once i get the carbs jetted/synched it will work alright. any help would be appreciated. thanks

TJ

About a billon motorcycles are riding around with vacuum operated petcocks...what was your question again?

For jetting...either pay the $130 (you can find better prices) or get ready to enter carburetor school. You will have to tune by trial and error and by performing plug chops. Do some research if you don't know what a plug chop is. It can be done for cheaper than purchasing a kit, but the needles may have to be changed along with the various jets and you are going to be in for a lot of work.

When you say it was running fine before, do you mean before the desicion was made to attepmt a hardtail conversion or after? If it was running right after it had been chopped up then the carbs may be already set for the pods since that really pretty much is the only option.

basically my question was will running pod filters affect the fuel getting sucked into the carbs or not at all, i cant imagine it would but the guy i bought it from(not an expert from what i gathered) said i would run into problems. sounds like the kit might be the easy way to go, is it easy to do yourself? also will i need to sync the carbs and all that after installing the dynajet kit or would it be pretty good to go. like i said im pretty new to motorcycles and carbs especially.

crash harris, it worked before the hardtail with the stock airbox. now its put back together with pods but it barely starts/runs and doesnt work to good (obviously, pod filters = lots more airflow)

From what they've told me we'll both need the Dynojet kit for pods. I'm going to try something with a beefy aluminum energy drink can that won't pull as much air as the pods until I can get the Dynojet kit for the pods that will eventually go on. You'll also have to further rejet for open pipes for the exhuast too if you go that route so I'll be getting the stage 1&3 kit.
