A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

For the full story check out the GS stories section, Going around the world on a 1982 GS850G.
Tires are pirelli scorpions and the suspension is progressive. Front boxes are ammo cans with custom racks. (ask me where you can get one). In calgary now but heading to the arctic Circle.

Hi Mr. shirazdrum,

Nice work! I'm really going to enjoy hearing about your trip around the world on your GS850G. Best of luck to you and Godspeed.

Are you going to bring an extra set of tires? Or are you planning to get 25,000 miles out of that set of Perilli Scorpions? ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Bassclif,
I was hoping to change the next set in your garage :P.
I'm still working on a tire manufature sponsor so we'll see how it goes. I'm going to get a set as soon as i get off dempster hwy and scorpions are doing very well so far. I might get another set just like them or something a little more aggresive.
she's running like a champ and the odometer just turned 29000.

Next stop, Edmonton

here are some shots from the front racks and back rack.

Chris,
Just curious if you notice any substantial handling differences with those front panniers?

Very cool idea, I have been thinking about doing the same mod, but have not yet decided on the exact placement.

Good luck with your trip, I'll be following your other post for sure.

It handles like a young mule on a mountain pass but I needed secure storage space. If you distribute the weight evenly, it's not that bad. It?s kind of hard U turning in slow speed but definitely doable. I?m getting used to it already. Make sure to turn your head where you want to go and the beast follows.
