    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

buying used clutch

I found a used clutch on eBay for cheap. I was wondering if you would or wouldn't buy a used one. My clutch has 38k miles, ridges on the fingers, and one of the tabs has actually broken off one of the fingers. The one I'm looking at has 29k miles and that's all I know. So what do you think?
 
IMO no unless I was planning on selling the bike that absolutely needed a clutch and the used clutch was the cheapest option. You still have to take into account the motor oil and gasket you need to replace and all the time you spend when putting in the clutch.
 
If the pieces measure out okay and the frictions aren't starting to crack, I'd use it. And if it's the unit on ebay I'm thinking about, I had thought about picking it up to have around as a spare.
 
I got lucky and got a good one on Ebay. All the plates and the springs were well within specs and everything else was in great shape as well. That being said, used parts on Ebay are always a crap shoot.

Well just so happens my oil and gasket are very fresh. I'll salvage them "if the gasket comes off in one piece. I just checked out my clutch less than 100 miles ago. My springs are good and I have a brand new spare set. Anything else come to mind.

Rusty, it might just be the same one. The store this guy has looks like he bought a 78 model and took it apart to sell.

You probably can reuse the gasket and do the work while on the side stand and there will be no loss of oil, works fine for me.
