A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

if things have not been swapped around and this engine is how it came from suzuki............
that is a 1982 GS1100E engine.

But head is identical to 83 (but with the smaller 82 cams), but since the whole motor is silver I would guess late 82 as well. Would be nice if it had a big end crank as well. Need to pull the clutch cover and look for evidence of a welded crank.

It is marked parts motor so maybve it is an 82 with spun crank

late/early/summer/winter/spring/fall 82 always had a 24 bolt VC and was silver in color.
i have heard of the mysterious "82 big end/welded cranks but i believe its in the single percentage of the engines/bikes floating around today(less than 10%).
if a bike was repaired at a dealership and had an "83 spec" crank installed under warranty...IMO..that does not count as a factory "82 big end/welded crank" engine.
i have never seen/touched one myself.

IIRC Ray told me he has seen them so there are probably a few floating around ;)

Thanks everyone for all the input! I have 1981 GS750 that i plan on dropping a 1100e into. I was told that the 80-81 would be the years the mounted the same or similar to the 750 motor. Any truth to that. What about 82-83?

These are options but gives you an idea of what works: thse brackets are not absolutely required but personally anything to stiffen the frame I would use.

heres what will work..
80-86 1100-1150 will bolt right into your frame without any kind of motor mount kits.
the bottom center triangle mount will need to be made "off set" or don't even use it...bandits quit using these mounts all together.

Again thank you!!! That opens my search up for tracking down motors
