A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have decided that since this is a good bike, and a rare one too. I am going to rebuild it. I have already started to aquire a few parts but will be needing alot more. i wanted to buy the only parts bike within a couple hundred miles of me but it sold already. If any one wants to donate money feel free to or if you know where i can get some good baasic(cheap) parts as well thatd me great. am needing most platic (tubes and boots for carb and air box) most wire harness and electrical components. display. tires. etc. if anyone has any ideas, let me know. I really dont want this bike to die here, even though it looks like its already dead. the seat is slightely burnt but i managed to save alot of that. Thank you.

PM me for info/donations

I just read this thread, i agree dont trash it, it doesnt look TOO bad, nothing $$ wont fix. I would like to jump on the band wagon and kick your brother up the arse too.

yeah we had it out last weekend while i was starting up an old scooter. my brother decided to "test" it out and ran it out of juice. first ill have to remove all the broken parts, then power wash her down. then go from there i supposse

That will buff right out

Seriously, Wiring and plastics are damaged, but not much else

I see a frame up restoration coming on

Check the parts for sale section

Looking at those pictures justs makes me sick. Your lucky you didn't have the tank on it and have it blow up. Now you got to sort through it to see what's good and what's not. All my spare parts are for GS1000E and GS1100E, it they would fit I'd send them to you.

i really need a good place to get boots for the intakes. as well as handles. pretty much all plastics melted.

This is where the hard part begins, coming up with an inventory of parts that you need for that '79 GS750L. Obviously a wiring harness, front turn signals, guages, headlight shell? coils? spark plug wires? battery? relays?
Airbox, airbox boots, chain guard?, key switch? You probably want to come up with the parts that you need just to get it running and go from there.
If you were to put a list together, I'm think there's some folks here that
might be able to help, or at least help you find these parts.
As long as you got a good frame, tank, seat, you got something to work with.

You need to get the masses of our members behind you! Where you have this posted in the "Carb installation Problem" you're only going to get very limited viewing and therefore limited responses.
I would start a "New Post" in the Parts Wanted Classified section, with your story, the pictures, an appeal for help getting these parts, and title it with something like "GS 750 Caught Fire, Need Parts!" and you should be able to get some help.
I'll be looking for your post there!

Yeah this thread was originally for a carb install prob but that same day it blew up and so i just posted my results and this is how it turned out

I read your entire thread, but it's no longer about the carb install problem.
You need parts, lots of parts, parts that are sitting around in peoples garages, basements, etc. If you post that new post on parts wanted along with your story and the pictures, you may get the help you need.
You've got nothing to lose in doing so.

I have moved this thread to parts needed and rebuild forums. The thread name is 1979 GS750L Fire! Need Parts!. Thank you for reading!

Well, I suggest you kick yourself up the A$$ as well. You should never have let spark and petrol be in contact with each other. Safety First, OH&S and all that. The only place that fuel and spark should be present together is inside the cylinders of your motor. NOWHERE ELSE.

Good luck with the repairs.

I think possibly my #1 carbs float level was off and it had a slow leak through the overflow valve. the valve timing may have been off or it back fired and lit the overflow. Also im unsure but I think the carbs were leaking into the air filter for some odd reason. I think it had to do with the over flow valve unable to leak out fast enough. But i had tubes on the overflow valves going to a seperate resevoir. I have no idea how it spread to my speedometer and tires. It was extremely bizarr. There could have been an electrical malfunction too.
