A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

carb rebuild kits

Need sources for carb rebuild kits. The 'stealer' is outragous ! What do you guys out there use and how do you like them ? How complete are they. ? Thanks for any input.

Terry

Rebuild kits are generally frowned upon here at GSR since they sometimes use inferior parts compared to the original Mikuni parts. General recommendation is to get an O-ring kit from cycleorings.com, including the intake boot O-rings if your bike has them, and add float bowl gaskets from Z1 Enterprises if needed. If the brass parts in your carbs are damaged for some reason, K&L car rebuild kits, also available from Z1, are reasonable quality in my experience but don't include all the O-rings needed once you ungang the carbs from one another for a proper cleaning.

Terry, I have NEVER had a problem with the K&L kits. They come with everything I've ever needed & have never given me a single problem. They are inexpensive also. Ray.

K&L kits are reported to be of better quality than the Keyster brand. Both are available on ebay. I have always used K&L, based on recommendations here. Look for George Fix's ebay store. He has a good rep. I don't know how his prices compare with other sources. But I don't bother to shop around. I trust George.

Good luck.

BTW. Ed is right about the kits not having all the o-rings you will need. None of the kits that I know of have the seals for the connections from carb to carb. Cycleorings.com is your best source. Robert Barr is the honcho here, and is a member of this forum. Between his o-rings, and the K&L kits you will have everything you need.

Four kits from Georgefix (K&L) are $75. I used these with no problems.

I just went though a set of carbs that have aftermarket rebuild kits installed (my guess is K&L brand but I'm not sure). When removing the float needle seat the little plastic filter screens were loose in the fuel feed passage. These little screens are flat and clip onto the needle seat but obviously they didn't stay in place properly. Ditched the screens entirely and put the float seats back in.

k guys if doing just a rejet should i order a full kit or the basic kit from georgefix? i plan to tear apart and dip the carbs so i know they are clean and fresh.

i may buy a set of carbs to do for the jetting so i can swap em out if need be with the stockers.

You should have just bought the o-rings and bowl gaskets. I bought the K&L kits and It was a waste of money. The o-rings were all I needed.

What you got was what you needed because your only taking the bottom half off. When i put jets in my vm's i didn't replace any seals or gaskets because nothing leaked, and still don't leak ( now i'm gonna go into the garage and there is going to be a waterfall of gas)

i always go by "do it once do it right" or "measure twice cut once" no sense goin in and doing a little but to "fix" a problem then have to go back in and repair the real problem.

its just cheap insurance then you know exactly what the carb conditions are.
