I changed the carbs on mt 1980 GS1000G today with a set I rebuilt from a GS1100e. I changed the idle jets from 45 to 40, put in new o-rings from Robert Barr and cleaned them good. Main jets are 112.5 and everything else is stock in the carbs. I sealed the air box, installed new intake boots and put new o-rings on the intake manifold. The mixture screws are out 2.5 turns from softly seated.
The bike started up right away and after a little idle adjust she seemed content. I then used a color tune plug to check combustion color and it was nice and blue.
The only thing I noticed is that the exhaust pipes were not at even temperature to the touch, the two right cylinders were noticeably cooler than the lefts. I have not sync'd them yet. Would this cause uneven exhaust temps?
Cheers.
