Im currently synching the carbs using a single carb syncher as opposed to one that can do all four at once. I seem to have a decent balance now with only slight float fluctuations. I've noticed now that i have smoke coming up from the bottom center of my bike. like where the engine near the oil pan. I can't tell where exactly its coming from and it's not very white or black, its just smoke. I know i have exhaust leaks down there but should i be seeing noticible smoke after the carbs are synched?

A carb sinc' would'nt have anything to do with what sounds like an oil leak. Maybe your oil drain bolt needs tightened. Don't over tighten. 8 or 9 ft/lb is enough, at least on my bike. Check the other assorted bolts too and torque them to spec's. Maybe the leak will stop.

well what im concerned about is that the smoke only appears when im messing with the carb synch. so i thought perhaps the mixture was overheating the engine or doing something else to create the smoke

It might be getting too warm ..

It's advised in the service manual to place a strong fan in front of the motor while syncing to cool the engine.

Might only happen when sitting still

I agree with the above statement, you should put a fan lon the bike. It could be some road grime for years of riding and when the bike is sitting still it gets hot enough to finally burn that stuff off. Other guess would be oil form a leak hitting the exhaust.

You're only noticing the smoke now because the motor's hot and you're standing around it instead of riding it. The smoke is caused by oil but the carb sinc' is not to blame for the oil leak.
I use two fans while I sinc'. Don't let the motor get too hot while synching.

DoH! yah ive probably done that several times. but at least its probably synched now.
